About Pera Chocolate & Cafe
Turkish tea and coffee, served in the traditional Turkish style, anchor the drinks at Pera Chocolate & Cafe, a café on Newland Avenue in Hull that also runs a chocolate shop counter. The kitchen covers breakfast and brunch, with hot ciabattas and a cheese toastie among the regular orders. Coffee runs through the drinks list, including iced flavoured lattes in pistachio and white chocolate, with milkshakes and smoothies alongside. There is no booking system, so customers come in and take a table, and the team takes orders and brings food and drinks out. Seating outside gives the option of eating in the open air, and dogs are welcome. A step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. The doors open daily at 81 Newland Ave.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee draws the most repeat praise, called the best on Newland Avenue and the best in town, with the Turkish tea and coffee singled out for being served in traditional Turkish style. Close behind sits the cheese toastie, described by two reviewers as the best they have had. Others name the cheesy beef nachos, a vanilla milkshake and baklava, the waffles, and the Mediterranean Breeze, and several mention quick service, generous portions and value for money. The praise is not universal. One reviewer found the iced pistachio and white chocolate latte tasted only of milk, and another describes a breakfast as microwaved with eggs that were not cooked properly. A longer account details a visit soured by one staff member who seemed irritated throughout, while warmly crediting the other on shift, enough that the group skipped the dessert they had planned. A recurring small detail is the chocolate spoon handed over alongside a coffee.

“Wonderful place, were kindly welcomed in by staff and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was. Ordered the cheesy beef nachos, red one smoothie, a vanilla milkshake and a baklava. Best nachos we've tried in the UK. Absolutely amazing would reccomend to anyone who comes by.”

“The cheese toastie is the best one I've ever had so would highly, highly recommend. The coffee, however, was not that good. I had the iced pistachio and white chocolate latte but it only tasted of milk which was disappointing. I would definitely try this place again considering how good the toastie was and the value for money.”

“If you want a microwave expensive breakfast this is the place to go. Only thing not microwaved was the eggs and they were not cooked properly.”

“From the moment we walked in, the woman was very unwelcoming. We greeted both staff members, and while the man responded warmly and was friendly throughout, her attitude was the complete opposite. She looked at me and my friend as if we were beneath her, appearing irritated even when serving us. It felt like she resented us for no reason, which made the experience uncomfortable. In contrast, the man was lovely, polite, and attentive. I genuinely cannot fault him at all. The food was decent, I had the Mediterranean Breeze which I enjoyed, but the poor service overshadowed it. Due to her attitude, we chose not to get dessert as planned and instead took our business elsewhere to Café Gelato. After leaving, we went to Tesco to do some shopping. As we walked back past the café around 6pm and saw them closing, we smiled again, but she responded with the same unpleasant expression. When we saw the man, we thanked him and wished him a good evening, and he remained kind and friendly. It’s a shame because the food was good and the male staff member was great, but the overall experience was let down by her attitude.”
