About The New Wilmington Café

The former waiting room of the old Wilmington train station now houses The New Wilmington Café, a cafe on Foster Street in Hull, where old railway photographs and pictures of how things used to be hang on the walls. Cooked English breakfasts are the mainstay, ordered in different sizes including a medium or a large, and served with toast. There are no reservations, so customers walk in and order at the counter. The kitchen also packs food for takeaway and sends orders out through Uber for anyone eating off site, with the cafe's stamped logo on the bag. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without a step, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. The cafe runs Monday to Saturday during the daytime and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for the cooked breakfast. The English breakfast and the medium and large plates are described as fresh, hot and served quickly, and a breakfast wrap also earns praise. Friendly staff come up repeatedly, and several enjoy the setting in the old train depot waiting room, with its railway photos and rustic interior. One reviewer calls it a good stop for van and truck drivers. A run of sharp complaints sits alongside the praise. One group of diners describes frozen hash browns, no poached eggs, and deep fried bacon, sausage and mushrooms. Delivery and takeaway orders draw others: a sausage sandwich that arrived as a sausage roll, a small burnt burger, a dry brownie and cold food. One reviewer describes an accepted order that was never fulfilled, with blame shifted to the delivery app. Another reports dirty cooking equipment. Happy diners mention plenty of toast and tea or coffee included with the big breakfast.

  • Victoria Houghton
“Do not order from here! They lie, swear and take no responsibility for your order not being fulfilled. Tried blaming Uber and the driver. The driver was not at fault her told me exactly what was going on in the cafe which the guy on the phone confirmed. How would he know this if he never went? They even blamed uber saying it’s there problem but then confirmed they have to accept an order, which was accepted. All lies from the cafe. Do not order!”
  • Matthew Fernandez-Perez
“Ordered a sausage sandwich and got a sausage roll. The burger was burnt and very small, the brownie was very dry and inedible. Food was cold. Very disappointing as we’ve ordered from here before and it was lovely.”
