  “We Often Visit The Old Grey Mare On Cottingham Road In Hull For Their Juicy Ribeye Steaks But Today We Tried The BOGOF Burgers And We're Not Disappointed! I Had The Beef BBQ With Two Thick Beef Patties With Bacon &Cheese. The Only Disappointing Part Is That It Was So Filling, I Had No Room For Desert. Our Bar Tender/Waitress, Katie Was Helpful, Knowledgeable And Nothing Was Too Much Trouble. Thanks Katie.”

  “Arrived with confirmation of booking for 11 to be told they saw it but they can’t do it now. Was for an important family meal. Another party left because they had the same situation hours before so we coul have there table. Food came, 11 meals 4 went back. Chef must cook in a forger because everything came out black. 100% never again.”

  “Pretty decent pub near uni. Appeared very family friendly as well at about 5:20pm on a Friday night. I have not eaten here in years so can't comment on the food, but I popped in for a drink on a very hot day recently as the bus would be a while ye and I needed to charge my phone. I asked the barman if he had any pale ales, he said no but that "the closest they had was a session IPA..." So I said I'd just have one of them then 🍺😅 nice atmosphere, pretty decent music playing. No complaints 👍🏼”

  “Another great visit for us all!! Amazing service from Vicky today. Despite the fact the tills where playing up and also training up a new member of staff, she was on top of her game and made our visit that bit more special.   “We came with our two children for a meal a couple of nights ago. Was a lovely atmosphere. The waiter told us they'd be a half a hour wait which is fine as its expected at busy times. We ordered via the app and drinks was served to us promptly. Dan the waiter went above and beyond for every customer. Checking in on them, asking if they needed anything else. He was amazing. the pub looked understaffed but they held it together well. Dan brought our food out and was very considerate to us having small children and brought theres out first which is brilliant when they are hungry and tired for a day out. The food was 10/10 and will be returning again very soon. Thank you to the chef and all staff especially the waiter he was lovely. Deserves a bonus for sure 🥰🥰”

  “Went for a meal on Saturday to celebrate my mums birthday who’s sadly not with us, we was greeted by Vicky who made sure we got the table we booked, she showed us to our table and made sure we was comfortable. She was very polite, friendly and was so nice to be acknowledged as soon as we entered. The food was amazing as always and any problems we had was soon corrected. Can’t fault this place it’s definitely a family favourite ☺️ would highly recommend to anyone!”

  “I visit here for food a lot usually with extended family as it’s always good. Today wasn’t good I needed a glass of water to take meds, all the glasses looked dirty, I advised the barman and he passed me another with lip marks on. I gave it back to a server and they got me a clean one. The barman then gave me a latte in a chipped cup! My steak pie and chips was beautiful but I couldn’t eat much of it due to being ill, my grand daughter liked her fish fingers but my daughters lasagne looked awful, the server did offer to replace it but we declined. I think we are going to give Grey Mare a break for a while, I like the food and the pub but the cleanliness is an issue for me and the barmans lack of customer skills”

  “Had a brilliant time at the pub thanks to Katie and Joe. The service was honestly top-tier! pints were at the table in under 60 seconds, which you don’t see often at all. Both of them were super friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. The atmosphere was spot on as well, with a really warm and lively vibe that made it easy to settle in and have a good time. You can tell the staff genuinely care about creating a great environment. Big shoutout to Katie and Joe, absolute legends. Will definitely be back!”

  “We were given room 1 (a twin room)- to get here it took over a 4 minute walk down damp smelling corridors which didn't impress us. When we unlocked our door, we were met with cracked wallpaper from damp and wet marks all over the walls (see first photo). Somebody had drawn in marker pen over the photo on the wall, the chair had crusts of old food and grease marks as though it was from the restaurant downstairs, and there were pubic hairs in the bath (again see photos). The shower curtain served no purpose as it stuck to you in the shower and was only on one side (not the back or front) so most of the water ended up on the windowsill behind. We ordered burgers for tea, before we went to our gig, and my burger was black (more than just charcoaled, it tasted burnt). Nobody came to check if our food was ok, and we left before anybody came to clear our plates. Frozen chips, and frozen onion rings too. The pub was rather dead at 6pm, so we left to find a better atmosphere at a pub down the road. When we came for breakfast, we were greeted with a not very happy looking chap (who we believe to be the landlord). He told us the breakfast was out in the back, and they would come and take our order for hot food. The full English breakfasts were decent, the mushrooms and egg (runny) were nice. There were no pastries, or range of coffee or tea, and no sweetners either. Basically toast, preserves, cereal, apple/banana/orange with apple and orange juice, and some coffee and tea. The floor was still filthy from the night before, with chips mushed into the carpet and again food crusted into the chairs. Again we left without anyone clearing our plates, so nobody had checked how our meal was. When we left, we weren't asked how our stay was, they just said goodbye and we walked out. For £80 a night far from Hull City Centre, it is very expensive considering the lack of care going into the hotel and restaurant. Nethertheless we enjoyed our gig at Asylum much more and it brightened our moods!”
