Customer Review Summary

Afternoon tea draws the most praise, with reviewers singling out the Gentlemans afternoon tea and describing the portions as plentiful, and one regular crediting the freshly prepared food and the bread from a local baker. Close behind are the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and feta, the English breakfast, and the Bottomless Brunch, where one reviewer says the drinks kept coming. Several describe friendly, accommodating staff, a birthday table that got a cupcake with a candle and a rendition of happy birthday, and a catering order for a family gathering that arrived as arranged and drew compliments from guests. Two reviewers say booking ahead is wise because the place fills up. The criticism is split between service and flavour. One afternoon tea party waited a long time for their food, had to ask for drinks and the tea and coffee, and were then told the table was needed for the next booking. Another diner found the skewers and the gyro bland and under-seasoned despite good presentation upstairs.

“Visited after being recommended by a friend and, unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. My wife ordered the skewers and I had the gyro. The presentation was excellent and the restaurant itself looked great, especially being seated upstairs, but the food was the real disappointment. Both dishes lacked flavour and were quite bland. The chicken in particular was very plain and seemed to be missing any real seasoning. While everything looked appetising when it arrived, the taste simply didn't match the presentation. Perhaps we were unlucky and chose the wrong items from the menu, but based on this visit, it's not somewhere I'd rush back to. Sorry, but I won't be returning.”

“Finally got to visit this hidden gem on the off chance I was in town. A very warm welcome from staff, attentive and couldn't be more friendly. I had an apple juice and smashed avocado on sourdough bread with poached eggs, feta cheese and a lovely dressing. I was so impressed with the presentation and the taste. I will definitely be back with family and friends. I would recommend booking ahead as it is so popular and started to fill up as i was leaving.”

“Visited yesterday for a pre-booked afternoon tea with family (table of 4). The food was very enjoyable and plentiful however the service and speed was very disappointing. After being seated no one offered drinks or even came over. We had to ask for drinks and then waited over 40 minutes before our afternoon arrived (I had to ask, to check they hadn't forgotten about us!) This was very disappointing, more so as there was no acknowledgement of the long wait or offer of any more drinks. Once the food came we didn't get offered the accompanying tea/coffee, again we had to ask. After finishing our food and asking for the bill the next interaction we had was the table hastily being cleared and telling us they needed it for their next booking! Had the overall experience being more efficient then we wouldn't have been there so long! Overall the food made up for the poor service but not enough for us to visit again. Which is a shame.”

“Came for afternoon tea with my husband. I have been here many times and the main reason for returning is the quality and freshness of the ingredients. I have intolerances to processed foods due to the additives. All the food here is freshly prepared with good products, the bread is especially delicious, sourced from a local bakers. Always delicious!”
