About MADRASI'S Taste of South India
MADRASI'S Taste of South India is an Indian restaurant at 194 Church Rd in Hove, with a South Indian menu built around dosas. The dosa range includes the masala dosa, the mysore masala dosa and the ghee spicy dosa. Beyond the dining room, the kitchen also takes on private event catering, so the same South Indian menu can serve a gathering of your own. Customer Review Summary
Dosas are what reviewers return to most, from the masala dosa and the ghee spicy dosa with crispy, well-seasoned edges to the mysore masala dosa, which several call authentic South Indian cooking. Close behind are the curries and starters: methi paneer described as rich and silky, kadai chicken, a light fish moli, saag paneer, tarka dhal, onion bhajis with a crispy exterior, and cauliflower in Manchurian sauce. Diners also mention sambar idly, mango lassi and coffee. Value comes up repeatedly, along with friendly staff, and one group that hired the restaurant for a private event of 30 people says the portions allowed seconds and thirds. The recurring caveat is the room itself. It is small and very busy, and a few reviewers say they were glad to have booked on a Friday or suggest booking for weekends. One finds it lively and quite loud rather than quiet, and another says the lighting could be dimmed and warmer. One takeaway customer who ordered pilau rice and pappadums says the meal beat anything else they had tried in central Brighton.

“It's not often I get home from a restaurant and immediately write a review, but this fantastic meal deserved it 100% WOW, the flavours are insanely good and the service is lovely. If I walked past Madrasi's I probably wouldn't have noticed it to be honest, its a modest looking place. However it was recommended to me by a supplier of mine who is from Southern India, and when I asked where his favourite place is in Brighton and Hove for authentic food, he didn't hesitate to suggest Madrasi's. We booked for three of us, me and two of my chefs from work, but one had to cancel (her loss!) so we decided to order for three people anyway and still try several dishes! We were not disappointed and everything was so delicious and FULL of flavour. I can't wait to have the takeaway leftovers for lunch tomorrow! My two favourite dishes were the Methi Paneer curry- it was rich and silky, and plenty of paneer, and the ghee spicy dosa - just WOW! All the sauces to dip were different and tasty, and the edges of the dosa were crispy and perfectly seasoned with salt & spices. It's great value, super friendly and attentive service, and absolutely banging Indian food. It's refreshing to have to choose from dishes with names I havent heard of before, rather than the usual English version of Indian currys!!!!”

“We had a delicious meal here - excellent dosa masala, the cauliflower fried with Manchurian sauce was exceptional, amazing tasty saag paneer, tarkha dhal was perfect & much more. The lighting could help with being dimmed & warmer to offer a more relaxed atmosphere. The service is great with friendly & knowledgeable staff. Can highly recommend.”

“Hired madrasi for a private event (30 people) and it was the highlight of the day. We still receive compliments about how fantastic the food was and the service was flawless! They turned up, set up and started serving the food. No drama, just smiling faces and great food! We had chilli chicken, onion bhajis, gobi Manchurian, lamb biryani, butter chicken, naans, veg curry, and gulab jamun for dessert. The staff are so friendly and so happy to help with any questions. Plus the portion sizes were great, enough for everyone to have seconds and thirds. You’ve gained a good few customers I think! Thank you so much!”

“I love curry, always have but this is the most delicious Indian food I have tasted. Better than it's competitors in central Brighton. We live several miles away but will be coming here in future for a incredible take away or to eat in ! Thank you”
