About The Mutton at Hazeley Heath
The Mutton at Hazeley Heath is a pub in Hook, set in a restored 19th-century building with an open fire inside. Private dining takes place in furnished Shepherd's Huts, which gives groups spaces of their own. The garden around them was curated by Hortus Loci. The kitchen cooks British classics from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, including fish and chips and a potato waffle crumpet starter. A prix fixe menu and a tasting menu give two set ways to eat. The drinks list covers wines, gins and local ales. Monthly "Taste Of" nights add a themed event to the pub's regular menus.

Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast is what reviewers raise most, called delicious and cooked well with good quality ingredients, with an unusual choice of juices on offer. One diner also names the cheesecake as the best they have tasted. Close behind are the special evenings: a five course Burns night with Balmoral chicken, haggis and a bagpiper, monthly Taste Of nights, the Prix Fixe menu and a tasting menu, all described as outstanding or good value. Others single out the fish and chips and a potato waffle crumpet starter. The main complaint is cost. One table found prices really steep for a country pub, especially desserts, and noted an automatic service charge on top. Another found the roast potatoes and lamb very salty, and a gluten free diner was given conflicting information about what could be adapted. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and the garden and warming fire draw praise. Reviewers also note the pub is dog friendly, and one server made a rescue dog welcome during a Sunday lunch.

“Stumbled upon the end of the wine event/ festival and caught a great music act and atmosphere. Enjoyed the BBQ menu! Really lovely interior to the place too!”

“We wish this was our local! This pub and restaurant is special. The garden is lovely for a relaxed drink and they are dog friendly. We have returned for Sunday lunch today and had exceptional service from KAYLA. She was very kind and considerate with our rescue dog, tending to him and making him welcome. Thank you for two great experiences, we don’t live locally, but wish we did!”

“1st time in years visiting, chose the tasting menu which was outstanding. Compliments to the chef and catering team and the front if house staff, exemplary on all counts. Happy birthday to me”

“The Sunday roast was delicious, cooked really well using good quality ingredients. There was an unusual number of juices on offer which we appreciated. Petit fours were ok, nothing special, but it was nice having an option of smaller dessert without a hot drink. Service was pleasant and efficient. Plenty of parking on offer. We found prices really steep for a country pub, especially deserts. There was an automatic 12.5% service charge on top. Three of us paid just over £40pp for a main meal each, one dessert, one petit for to share and three soft drinks. We might be back for a special occasion or two.”

“The staff were great and walked my partner through the menu as he’s gluten free. Although had conflicting info about what could and couldn’t be made gluten free. But the roast (potatoes and lamb specifically) was very salty. Good portions and nice to have an open fire.”
