Quick info
About The Walter Arms
The Walter Arms is a pub and restaurant on Bearwood Rd in Wokingham, set in a red-brick Victorian building. Tuesday is unlimited steak night, so steak lovers can keep ordering through the evening. The rest of the week centres on a Pan-European menu, with onion rings and truffle mac and cheese as sides, and Sunday dinner is served. Thursday is quiz night. The pub takes walk-ins, with no booking needed. A barn on site hosts private events such as 50th birthday parties, with a buffet laid on, which suits groups celebrating together.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the food, with the unlimited steak night on a Tuesday drawing the most detail: rump of beef cooked medium rare, a creamy peppercorn sauce, crispy chips and a truffle mac and cheese. Close behind are the events, with two separate 50th birthday parties in the barn and a 21st birthday celebration described as running smoothly, one noting the buffet and gluten free catering. Others praise the onion rings as extremely crispy, the Sunday dinner, the garden, and the bar, which one reviewer said felt like a hunting lodge. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and lovely, and the Thursday quiz gets a mention, though one reviewer felt the team was a little overworked that night. The main complaint concerns availability. One diner found the chicken wings nearly gone and the beef short rib off on an early Saturday evening, and says half the menu was unavailable on a previous lunch visit, when the waiter steered them toward a fish dish. Another stopped visiting after the nachos were removed from the menu. One reviewer was handed the bill in a treasure chest.

“I came here for my birthday dinner just a week after moving to the area. The food is amazing (onion rings are ASMR level crispy) and the staff are so lovely. I quickly became a regular with my partner and any friends I can bring along. Extra special thanks to Anika (sp?) who opened my eyes to the world beyond pink gin and made some excellent recommendations. Garden is so lovely I'll sit here in the winter ☃️”

“If you want a beautiful venue that offers both great food and a pub experience then go. I am a traditionalist and was slightly skeptical as the website was meal focused. However, lovely bar in the pub section which felt like a huntinf lodge. The staff were all superb, i would suggest on a Thursday a little overworked but rhay demonstrated their commitment and passion for the pub. Thursday quiz which was great, as waz fhe host.”

“Just went there this evening for the first time and it is so lovely! Easy to get there from sindlesham and the roadworks are no bother. It's such a lovely pub, glorious food, super friendly staff. It was everything me and my husband wanted for a lovely evening out together. Very much recommend! They even gave the bill in a cute treasure chest!”

“I celebrated my daughter’s 21st birthday at The Walter Arms and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Paul did an absolutely outstanding job, both in the lead-up to the event and throughout the celebration itself. He took care of every detail and made sure everything ran smoothly, allowing us to truly relax and enjoy the day. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience were excellent. I would highly recommend it for any special occasion. Thank you for making it such a memorable celebration!”

“50th birthday party in the barn. Great communication before the event to make arrangements. Helpful staff who made the evening run smoothly. Everyone enjoyed the buffet and commented on how tasty the food was. Gluten free also catered for. Thank you for a great evening.”
