About The Jolly Tanners
The Jolly Tanners is a pub on Handcross Rd in Haywards Heath, with a dining room under a vaulted glass orangery-style ceiling, large windows and a live fireplace. The menu runs to 90 dishes, from Olde Sussex Cheddar And Pineapple Gougeres to the J.T. Ploughmans (Between Two), a board served for two. A roast dinner menu is available for Sunday lunch, and bavette steak is on the main list with sides ordered separately. Outside, a large garden with a lawn sits opposite a village green, and a play area gives younger kids space of their own. Tables can be booked online, which suits the large groups the pub draws. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Sunday roast, with one family calling the pork the most succulent roast they could remember, crackling still crisp, and another recommending the pub to anyone who enjoys a good roast dinner. Close behind are the chips and apple crumble, described as exceptional and divine, plus a four course birthday meal with a champagne reception. The staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and the garden, village green and kids play area get mentions too. Cost is the most common complaint: the food is called pricey, small portions are noted for the price, and a bavette steak arrived with no garnish while each side ran extra. One party of eleven found caesar salads unavailable for lack of lettuce, chips refused, and burgers ordered well done served pink. Others mention loud conversation when full and no cocktails. One diner whose booking was for the wrong week was still given a table near the bar by the front desk.

“Me and my girlfriend came here last minute and the team managed to fit us in, from the moment we sat down the service was phenomenal, exceptionally attentive staff. Helen made us feel very welcome and Kallen was serving us and he made sure we were satisfied at all times. I’d highly recommended to anyone that enjoys a good roast dinner. We will be back!”

“Very pleasant, busy pub. Whilst the food was very tasty, it seems a bit strange to be given a main meal such as a bavette steak with absolutely no garnish on the side. Even a small tomato or bit of rocket would have made it look more attractive. The meals aren’t cheap and there are no sides included with most mains. Each side seemed to be £5. Whilst the service was very good, it was not a cheap meal.”

“They've done a great job at doing this up to what it was years ago! Loads of space in the garden, great Sunday lunch menu, staff were super helpful and friendly. Good little play area for younger kids outside and good amount of parking. Food is a bit pricey but I think it's a particular vibe they're trying to create but in comparison, the kids menu is a great deal and had things all our kids love to eat.”

“Very disappointed with food. We took a relative visiting from abroad (party of 7 adults/4 kids) and was looking forward to an enjoyable day/food. On an extremely hot day, arriving promptly at 12:00, amongst our order we asked for 3 x caesar salads but to our surprise they were not available due to a lack of lettuce! In addition we were told that is was possible to have a side order of chips but when we ordered the opposite occurred The burgers we ordered were meant to be well done but turned out pink! The portions were rather small relative to the costs The young staff were pleasant and seemed to be doing their best”

“Visited here for the first time for my Brother in law's 80th Birthday celebrations!! It was fabulous from start to finish ..from the champagne reception to the 4 course meal and then coffee and Petit fours to finish!! The staff were very attentive and the food was exceptional! I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion.”
