About The Thatched Inn
The Thatched Inn is a pub on Grand Ave in Hassocks, West Sussex, refurbished in May 2025 under new ownership. The work gave the pub a modernised bar and restaurant, and outside it has a beer garden and a play area near the South Downs. The menu is small, with a Sunday roast that includes roast beef, plus burgers and chips. Dogs are welcome, which suits a pint after a walk. A private dining room is available for groups.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with diners praising roast beef cooked with some red in the middle and crispy, fluffy potatoes. Close behind are the chicken lolly pops starter with chilli and sweetcorn purée, a prawn and chilli linguine, a steak pie with mash, and burgers with chips that one reviewer called tasty and quick. Several credit friendly bar and floor staff, and others say the refurbishment has made the pub look modern and brighter, with a garden that suits summer drinks. A recurring complaint is service and pace. One group booked for a roast, waited for food, had to ask repeatedly for water, were ignored when asking for extra gravy, and left after a long wait for dessert that never took their order. Another found the menu small and burgers slow on a quiet day, with portions not the best value. One large car club group was handled well despite constantly changing numbers, and a reviewer noted a wrong drink was replaced without fuss.

“We had a Car Club there with 40 plus. They coped well with the many changes of people coming and the food was great. We've used the pub in the past for club lunches and it was noticeable to see the improvements to decor the new management has done. Well done to them.”

“We visited today for Sunday lunch. I would particularly like to mention Karen & Conor who made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. They were both really friendly and polite and we had a great rapport with both of them. Our food was lovely and very good value for money. We stayed for 4 hours enjoying the company of our friends and the interaction with the staff and look forward to visiting again in the future. Would highly recommend this restaurant.”
