About The Plough Pyecombe
The Plough Pyecombe is a gastropub in Brighton, a countryside pub beside the South Downs Way that is owned and run by Italian gentlemen. Dining takes place in a separate restaurant area, with a bar area next to it and a conservatory seating area. The menu is extensive and adds specials, with fajitas and ribs among the mains. A Sunday roast is offered, including a turkey roast, and home made desserts round out the menu. The pub opens daily, and bookings and enquiries are handled by phone.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, singling out the Sunday roast, a turkey roast, and the Gardner burger, with the beef stroganoff, stuffed chicken breast, chicken Milanese and sea bass with saffron also named. Fajitas and ribs get a recommendation, and one reviewer urges trying the home made desserts. Close behind, several describe friendly, attentive staff, large portions, and prices they call reasonable or good value, along with a large garden and an airy restaurant area. The main complaint concerns the garden furniture. Two reviewers report picnic benches in the top garden breaking while people sat on them, one with two elderly guests, and one says no refund was given though spilled drinks were replaced. One of them says the manager denied responsibility. A separate reviewer found the food flavourless and like pre-packaged frozen meals. In one visit, some desserts were unavailable and alternatives were offered and enjoyed instead.

“We came here for the first time on a recommendation and will deffinately recommend it ourselves now. I had Seabass with Saffron and it was one of the best fish dishes I have had. So delicious ! The service was very friendly and the surroundings were beautiful. Will deffinately return.”

“It was fairly quiet but between lunch and dinner times, a large spread out area inside and out. food was excellent (Turkey Roast) and a comparatively reasonable price good selection if drinks. A nice surprise all round”

“We visited around 6:00 PM on a lovely, sunny evening after work. The garden area is lovely, easy to get to, and has plenty of parking. Service was perfectly fine, and the young woman looking after us was very pleasant and welcoming. The menu is quite extensive with a long list of options, but unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. None of the dishes we ordered had much flavour, and they tasted like pre-packaged, frozen meals. It’s a real shame, as the pub itself has so much potential with such a great outdoor space.”

“A fantastic visit as a group of 4 for dinner, plenty of space at 5pm on a Friday evening. Menu is vast and varied, certainly something for everyone! Food was delicious too, good size portions and great value. Recommend the fajitas and ribs. Unfortunately a few of the desserts we ordered weren’t available, but alternatives were offered and enjoyed instead! Recommend a visit if nearby.”

“Enjoyed our time overall, very much helped by a lovely, caring, helpful barman who should be the next manager. However, unfortunately the picnic benches in the top garden were rotten and broke under us (two of the tables did this and the others looked same age and unsafe in hindsight). The nice barman said he’d look at replacing all these tables, which is a great idea as it’s a fab space. Just needed the manager to show more customer care and concern for us. Food was really good, would definitely eat there again.”
