  “My sister had her wedding reception and evening party at Portals and what can we say... it was amazing. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. They brought out food in good time considering they were serving the full restaurant at the same time. The staff turned around the room for the evening event in good time and ensured that all table decorations were used and saved. The evening buffet was great with tasty treats like parmo bites and excellent selection for dietary requirements. The staff were so positive and helpful throughout the day and served drinks at 2 bars. Michelle was there to help my mum deliver the cake early that morning and set up the whole restaurant beautifully just as requested. Nothing for the event was too much to ask for and it was perfect. Thank you Michelle and all of the amazing staff at Portals for making my sister and brother in law's wedding perfect.”

  “Oct 2023 • Couples Service is over and above , very friendly and efficient staff. third visit for sunday lunch, the gravy is ti die for ,(licking my lips thinkg about it,almost taste it) The meat is a little to tough for my liking ,same as last visit (had the trio ) pity, spoiled what could have been a perfect meal, The chef needs to work at this. The vegatables are cooked well and tasty although a little too much brocolli every time. The carrot tops are left on so needed to prune these, Maybe its a fasion im not sure but I dont eat the stalks on pears ,apples ,turnips so Forth,,A little more effort and it would be thee place to go. Been in several times since, my favourite is the slow cooked beef A good waddle out is required. Portals is consistant , consistantly very good.. Another visit, an evening meal at Portals( 23/07/2026). Once again, I went for the slow cooked beef with seasonal vegetables, washed down with a large cordial. Not disappointed, as advertised, it falls apart easily, not chewy, and it’s good to see that standard consistently maintained. My partner chose the peppercorn chicken with homemade chips. The sauce was plentiful but lacked that peppery kick — a few actual peppercorns would have helped. The chicken itself was a little tough for her liking, and she even suggested a steak knife. In fairness, Santonio’s on the marina still has the edge when it comes to peppercorn sauce. Our friend had the lamb shoulder and mentioned it was also a bit tough. The chips, as usual, were good quality. As for the seasonal vegetables, well thats what they are, cooked fine nothing special here. We waited around 43 minutes for the food, but this was explained when we were seated, “that everything was cooked fresh”. Our friend did acknowledge that if it was cooked fresh, the toughness made sense; you can’t really expect slow cooked tenderness in under an hour. Overall: Portals remain consistently good and maintain a standard other restaurant should strive for. Even with a few minor issues, the experience was positive, and the effort to cook fresh is appreciated.”

  “Came for lunch with family to celebrate a 50th birthday, my first time here and I would definitely come back. Service was good, food was fab, everything was cooked fresh, between the 7 of us everyone got something different and we all equally enjoyed the food, no complaints. Atmosphere was nice and relaxed which we love. Sorry for the lack of photos! Too busy enjoying the food, drink and company!”

  “We went for Sunday lunch on mother's day, the food was delicious but there was not enough staff to manage so many people. We waited a long time for our drink order, then ages for our food to be served and when we asked if you could order dessert we were told that we only had 2 hours and another booking was due in at 2pm, they took our order and brought out our dessert fairly quickly but by this time it was 1.55pm and we all felt that we had to rush. If we had wanted coffee after we had no time through no fault of our own.”

  “Had an amazing brunch at Portals Place! Chanice was a fantastic server, so friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. The staff were wonderful throughout the night, always keeping our glasses full and checking in without being overbearing. The food was absolutely delicious with really good portion sizes. Overall, we had such a great time and can’t wait to come back!”

  “Absolutely spot on, its in a lovely area of Hartlepool Marina, you do have to pay for Car Parking but when you go into the restaurant let them know your car registration plate number and they will add the car parking to your bill no need to mess around with thr car park app.. which I thought was a brilliant service.”

  “I have got to say this was the best stake I've ever had! It was done to perfection and the sauce it came with was amazing. My friend ordered the mussels and I have never liked mussels my whole life but she offered me to try one and to my amazement I actually liked it! I really liked it. I will be ordering the mussels next time I visit here. It is a bit expensive but with the offers they have on buying one meal and a starter for £13.95 it worked out well. You could also switch having a dessert instead of a starter which I did and got the strawberry cheese cake.”
