Customer Review Summary
Steak and mussels draw repeat praise, with several reviewers naming the sticky toffee pudding, Biscoff cheesecake, and Hot Chocolate Layer Cake as standout desserts, and a mid week carvery with "proper yorkshires" and gravy singled out by one diner. Pasta dishes are more mixed, with one reviewer finding the pasta Con Polo "a bit bland" while another praised the Chicken Alfredo and bolognaise. Complaints recur around temperature and consistency: cold garlic bread comes up twice, one visit was described as "freezing cold inside," and pink, undercooked parmo chicken alarmed one reviewer. A more severe account describes a whole meal gone wrong, with a garlic mushroom starter, cold Chicken Diane, and tough ribeye, alongside forgotten items and slow drink service, and one reviewer reports a family member was sick after eating there. Value and friendliness are mentioned repeatedly, with several noting reasonable three-course pricing and helpful staff, and one large group of over 40 saying the kitchen handled the occasion efficiently despite the numbers.

“Marco Polo Restaurant Hartlepool, United Kingdom Diabolical January 2026 This was one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. We arrived at 6.30pm and initially ordered 2 starters. They managed to get one of them wrong so we had to wait while the correct starter was prepared. The mussel starter was ok but the garlic mushrooms were absolutely disgusting - supposedly cream and garlic sauce; very little cream and the garlic was definitely not fresh but probably powdered, leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. ( my daughter went to the loo and threw up after eating it). The Chicken Diane was completely cold and tasted sour. The chicken kebab was bland, dry, overcooked and tasted awful: it was accompanied by the cheapest pitta bread (absolutely vile)that it is possible to buy - my daughter ate one small piece of the chicken and left the remainder. The ribeye steak was so tough it was impossible to eat. The additional side salad we ordered was forgotten until we asked for it again. The salads consisted of lettuce, lettuce and lettuce with a faint scattering of onion, peppers etc. with two baby plum tomatoes in each and several hairs! While the servers were pleasant the service itself was terrible - despite the fact there were only three tables occupied I was obliged to wave the menu in the air to request further drinks (after waiting for some time) and out of two drinks ordered one was not served. The ice machine was not working and the draft bitter was off. Basically, we paid almost £100 for a meal that we either didn't eat or made us feel ill. The management were not interested (the place is for sale) so we paid and left - never to return. This restaurant was apparently good at one time but is now nothing more than a total ripoff. “I would of given 5 stars however the garlic bread was stone cold However the bolognaise was really good”

“Parmos chicken was pink all the way through and had bits of red still in it absolutely disgusting!🤮 Didn’t even look like chicken more like pork or gammon.”

“We were with a large group, 40+, which is always a challenge for the kitchen and staff on top of other patrons. The whole thing was handled efficiently and expertly. I had pasta Con Polo, which wasn't really up to snuff in my opinion. Not horrid or anything, just a bit bland. The dessert, Biscoff Cheesecake, was very good and made up for it. My wife had the Chicken Alfredo and was pleased with hers, overall. She had Hot Chocolate Layer Cake for afters and said it also was very good.”
