About Rope & Anchor
In Half, Rope & Anchor is a pub at 4 Sarum St serving English dishes alongside cask ales, with live music every week. Pie is the recurring plate, served with mash and sautéed greens, and the "pie and a pint" special and a pie night give regulars a set evening to plan around. Cod with chorizo and potato hash is another main, and a Sunday roast comes with chicken or a choice of pork or beef. Waiting staff handle table service, while the bar pours pints and wine. The pub is walk-in.

Customer Review Summary
Pies are what reviewers raise most, with diners calling them fantastic, praising a light, tender crust and a filling served on mashed potatoes with sautéed greens, and mentioning a pie night and a pie and a pint special. Close behind is the cod with potato and chorizo hash, described as well cooked and flavoursome, along with a scotch egg with an unusual chutney, tender lamb and a Japanese chicken and mushroom risotto. Sunday lunch draws praise from two visitors for its fresh vegetables, and one returned later in the week. Servers and bartenders are repeatedly called friendly, attentive and welcoming, and several mention value for money. The main complaint is a single detailed critique of the roast: beef described as fat and gristle, a small portion of chicken with soggy skin, flavourless stuffing, Yorkshires that needed to rise and roast potatoes that were not fluffy. That reviewer still found the drinks and atmosphere fine and said the gravy had a nice flavour. One reviewer who booked Sunday lunch suggests reserving a table, and a few diners came back for a second visit during the same trip.

“Had a fantastic time this evening - would highly recommend! We tried the Japanese Chicken and Mushroom Risotto and both were delicious and a great light accompaniment to the drinks. We didn’t get her name but the waitress that served us was really sweet and attentive too. Will be back for our next visit to Poole ☺️”

“Popped in here hungrily looking for some food after a drive from Cornwall. Absolutely wonderful dining experience - excellent, swift and attentive service by a wonderful young woman, and delicious food (pie and mash) with a good glass of red wine to go with it. Highly recommend this place and would definitely visit again if in the area.”

“Had a beautiful Sunday lunch here, with a nice selection of fresh vegetables. Good service, very welcoming. Did return later in the week to have cod with potato and chorizo hash, this was well cooked, very flavoursome. Will come again next time we are in Poole”

“We had the most lovely dinner at Rope & Anchor in Poole. After two months of exploring England, from London to Somerset, and down to Dorset my husband and I agreed that this meal has been our favorite! We started off with a beautiful scotch egg with a chutney that was unlike any I’d ever had. For our mains we had an unbelievably tender, juicy lamb dish with crispy potatoes and a lovely green side. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pan seared cod with chorizo, and potatoes. The food was top notch! Couple that with the service, our lovely bartender/server was so attentive and helped us with recommendations. We will be returning. And if you’ve haven’t, you’ve got to enjoy a meal at Rope & Anchor!”
