About Priory Farm

Priory Farm is a British restaurant on St Olaves in Great Yarmouth, set in a barn next to St Olave's Priory. The carvery has pork and lamb carved in front of you, served with homemade Yorkshire puddings and a choice of vegetables. Away from the carvery, the standard menu comes with a board of specials, and mains arrive with 2 sides. An upstairs seating area overlooks the downstairs restaurant, and the barn is decorated with fairy lights. Drinks are ordered from the table, and carvery tickets are handed out there before guests queue at the carvery. Reservations are required. A Breakfast Club sets out a DIY toaster, pastries and muffins, with tea and coffee at the end of the room.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are specific. Two reviewers describe drinks taking 20 to 30 minutes or more, with one table walking out on seeing the food. They found the carvery meat dry, including turkey too hard to eat, with lumpy mash, flat Yorkshire puddings and hard parsnips. A breakfast club visitor found the fried breakfast went cold quickly and the white toast tasteless, and one reviewer's leftover turkey was left out of the container meant for their dog.

“Super local find. Had a Sunday carvery here. £15 for carvery or 2 courses £20, 3 courses £24, extra large plate with 4 meats and 4 pigs an extra £4. Good selection of meats, carved in front of you, excellent veg choices and a lovely thick rich meat or veg gravy and sauces. Loved the leeks in cheese sauce as something different. Perfect roasties and mashed swede. Nice cauliflower cheese. Plus others. Good selection of deserts - something for everyone. Friendly staff and spotlessly clean restaurant/toilets. The chef was great. Chatted to everyone. Interested in what you were doing, where you came from etc. A really genuine guy. On our list to return to in future”

“Visited today after many years for the Breakfast Club. Venue was clean and staff were very attentive. Food was ok but went cold very fast and a cold fried breakfast is inedible. Tea and coffee at the end of the room was also not very hot. Sugar in my coffee wouldn’t dissolve. DIY toaster worked well but the white bread option was entirely tasteless - weirdly there was no flavour to it at all. There were pastries on offer and muffins but they didn’t look very appetising and had that ‘just defrosted’, sweaty look. Overall I’d describe our meal as ok but not great. The cost luckily was reasonable but I don’t think we will go back sadly as there are much better options available locally for less cost. Hope this feedback helps going forward.”

“Wow what a change from the last time I left a review on here , last time as you can see from my photo was 5 stars across the board. First time we have been since it changed to carvery and really wish they hadn't. Drinks took 20 minutes to come , the food really wasn't good. Turkey that was so dry and hard I couldn't eat it , mash potato with lumps , swede and carrot mash that was definitely not mashed. Yorkshire puddings as flat as pancakes , and the roasted parsnips you could actually hear us cutting through them. Everything else was ok but not great. Staff were ok but not what I would call friendly and I thought they had redeemed themselves a little by offering to put our leftovers from our plate into a container for our dog but even that they messed up and didn't put any of my leftover dry turkey and other bits of meat into the container. See my photo and you will see the review I left before so this isn't just a dig at a business but if your place isn't very busy on a Sunday for carvery as this wasn't and people are leaving lots of their plates as the couple near us did then maybe you need to look at what is going on.”

“Went first time for a carvery and never again. We were shown to our table where we sat for 20 minutes wondering if we had to order drinks at the bar, a lady finally came over and took our order 10 minutes later we given our carvery tickets, we sat for a further 20 minutes still waiting for our drinks. I asked the lady who took our order where our drinks were as we had waited over 30 minutes for a drink, we went a queued for the carvery which did not have a lot of options and the meat was terribly dry looking and very little of it. We returned to our table and still no drinks so I went and enquired at the bar and they brought them over 10 minutes later. The couple on a neighbouring table were complaining at how bad it was and went and complained when leaving, another table got up and walked off when they saw the food and another table saying they had waited 40 minutes to get a glass of coke. Never would I visit or recommend this place”

“Tried this restaurant for the first time on Mothers Day and was very impressed! We received a warm welcome from all staff who seated/served us and thought the carvery was great. There were lots of choice of veg and was nice to also see pork and lamb available which isn't too common in many places. The home made Yorkshire puddings were lovely. My only criticism would be that for £16pp I think pigs in blankets should be included in the carvery, not an extra charge as its already a lot to pay. The pork was cooked perfectly, it was incredibly soft. The barn is a really nice setting and we were lucky enough to sit upstairs which made for a lovely atmosphere with all the fairy lights they had decorated it with and being able to overlook the downstairs restaurant. A really enjoyable experience.”
