About Wing Hing

Customer Review Summary

Reviews split sharply, and the sweet and sour chicken and pork balls come up most. One regular describes sizable portions with a crispy batter and sticky sauce, while two others found the batter thick and stodgy with little chicken inside, and one adds that the sauce was watery. Ribs divide opinion too. One diner singles them out as the best part of a tasty dinner, while another says the barbecue ribs come flavoured but dry, so ribs in sauce have to be requested. A third calls them bone dry. Pork fried rice and duck pancakes earn praise, and one reviewer rates the Singapore noodles the best item in an otherwise underwhelming order. Critics cite a forgotten dish, soggy salt and pepper chicken, dry chicken chow mein, satay sauce coating the chicken starter, and beef in black bean sauce that was mostly gravy. Others mention large portions and a phoned-in order being ready and hot at the time they gave.

“I recently ordered a takeaway from Wing Hing in Gravesend and, unfortunately, it was quite disappointing overall. The chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce were the biggest letdown. The batter was extremely thick with very little chicken inside, making them feel heavy and stodgy rather than light and crispy. The sweet and sour sauce itself was also quite watery, which didn’t really help the dish. I also ordered two meat pancake rolls. These were just about average — nothing particularly memorable. They were quite greasy but still edible. The Singapore noodles were probably the best item in the order. They were fairly tasty and enjoyable to eat, although still not anything particularly special. I also tried the orange chicken. I had originally wanted duck in orange sauce, but chose the chicken option instead because they don’t sell the duck version. Unfortunately, this dish didn’t work for me at all. The chicken had a batter coating that became very soggy once covered in the orange sauce, giving the dish an odd texture that I found quite unpleasant. Overall, the meal was underwhelming and didn’t meet expectations. I’d give it 2 out of 5 stars. While it wasn’t completely inedible, it wasn’t good enough for me to return in the future.”

“This has to be the worst Chinese takeaway ever. Mistakes happen but forgetting a dish and me having to drive back is poor form for a takeaway that wasn’t rushed off its feet (was the only customer in waiting for food). Chicken in cashews was watery, weak and flavourless. Chicken curry was a solid lump of gloopy sludge with just a whisper of curry. Mixed hor de ourves was cold and the satay sauce was a solid fatty covering on the chicken. Rice was average. Crispy duck was crispy for sure as it seems to have been cooked all day for a week. A shame as it’s in a great location what with the pub, fish and chips, kebab and corner shop all on the same street. If you fancy a Chinese and in the area… don’t. Get fish and chips instead.”

“So disappointed in my takeaway that I put it in the bin rather than taking it back and sitting in traffic for 30mins. The beef in black bean sauce was just a thick sludge of gravy over beef and a bowl of onions with 3x minute pieces of green pepper and the special fried rice, well I've had better microwave rice. I will not be using them again.”

“Unfortunately my experience doesn't seem to be in line with many of these reviews. This take away was recommended to me after the Miramar (best Chinese take away ever) closed, but it was a big disappointment. Food was either so bland it was dull, or so over seasoned all I could taste was salt. Could have repointed my house with the batter on the sweet & sour chicken balls. Oh well, you live and learn. Nasty.”
