Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on Lotus House, a long-standing Gravesend takeaway, and the curries draw the harshest words. Two describe the chicken curry and the chicken and beef curry as watery slop, one tasting uncooked potato starch. Others report king prawns in a chow mien that were off, a congealed bean curd peking style, and an almost inedible weekend meal with forgotten items. One caller says a complaint met a rude, unapologetic response. Slow service recurs, with one reviewer describing a collection at 5.20pm that finally arrived at 6.15pm, with only free prawn crackers offered. On the positive side, longtime customers of around 40 years praise consistent quality, and others cite friendly staff and affordable prices. One loyal customer still finds the large spring rolls pre-made and the prawn crackers sometimes soggy, and notes it has always been cash only.

“Just ordered chicken and beef curry and egg fried rice . Rice was ok but both curries was like slop . Worst curry ever had , both so watery wasn’t enough rice to soak up the slops . How can a take away on a estate near a pub be so shite . Has been hit or miss for a while now but now a complete miss . Do not waste your money .”

“Ordered a Chinese chicken curry and rice. I'm sorry! I do a lot of cooking especially Chinese! But decided to have a night off from cooking! I wouldn't serve this slop! To my worst enemy. Bland and could taste the uncooked potato starch. I demanded that my husband complain. But he was settled for the night indoors and did need the aggro! How on god's earth do owners of the take away think this is acceptable to eat! It's actually an insult to our intelligence! Never ever would we eat food from the lotus again! Disgusting 🤢”

“We were very disappointed with our meal. My husband had 4 prawns and lots of onions and peas, while my bean curd peking style was congealed.”

“We love it here, the only place we get out chinese's from. very affordable staff are lovely and the food is amazing, there is only one downside and that is that the service could be a bit quicker and more organised. apart from that it’s an amazing takeaway”

“The Mirimar was always our go-to chinese takeaway until it closed a couple of years ago. Tried a few others, settled on the Lotus House, and up until recently it was pretty decent. Unfortunately last weekend's meal was almost inedible, and they forgot items on the order, so a disappointing experience all round. Won't be back.”
