About Memories of India
Memories of India is a family-owned Indian restaurant in Gorebridge, in a small roadside building at 4 Newtonloan Toll with more than 45 seats. The menu includes lamb rogan josh, chicken tikka madras and a Sri Lanka special curry, and a set meal for 2 is also offered. The restaurant opens daily, evenings only. Orders also travel well beyond the village. The kitchen sends food out seven days a week to a long list of EH and TD1 postcodes, from Gilmerton in the north to Galashiels in the south, so households across a wide stretch of the surrounding area can order the same menu without making the trip.

Customer Review Summary
Lamb draws the most praise, with reviewers calling the lamb korma soft and the lamb rogan josh tender and full of flavour. Close behind are the chicken korma, a chicken tikka madras with delicate flavours, and a vindaloo described as beautifully hot, while the naan is called fresh and as big as the plate. Reviewers also mention big, hot portions, fast delivery, friendly owners, and a set meal for two they find good value. The complaints are serious. One reviewer reports finding a piece of burnt plastic in a curry and being told no refund was guaranteed, adding that the food was better under the previous owner. Two others describe stomach pain the following day, one after a dine-in Christmas meal with over two hours of slow service, a cold room, a lamb saag with few pieces of meat and a salty chicken tandoori. Another reports slow delivery, missing poppadoms, and no reply to an online message.

“I live in West Yorkshire, so access to Bradford and world-class curries is easy. I can say, with hand on heart, this is the best chicken tikka madras I’ve ever had. Delicate flavours, the heat is sweet when it starts, and even at the end of my meal, when my palette is hot with spices, I can still taste individual ingredients. Top it off with friendly owners, and perfect service, simply put, superb. RECOMMENDED!!!”

“Ordered from here Wednesday, delivery was slow, poppadoms were missing from order. Contacted via online service, no reply. Food we did receive was ok, but both of us that ate had sore stomach following day.”

“We had a Christmas dinner last night with my husband and our toddler. We spent over 2 hours in the restaurant because the service was extremely slow. The restaurant was very cold; our hands and feet were freezing. I asked for a heater, but it was rusty and made little difference. The restaurant was also not very clean, but we decided to stay because we were hungry and had seen good reviews, so we tried not to judge by appearances. When the food finally arrived, it was not hot and became cold very quickly due to the temperature in the restaurant. The lamb saag had only a few pieces of meat. My chicken tandoori was extremely salty. When the staff asked how the food was, I mentioned that it was salty, but they said nothing and walked away. After leaving the restaurant, we soon developed stomach pain, and the next morning we were still unwell. We will definitely not be returning. Very disappointed.”

“WOW!! The new rat dishes are absolutely amazing!! Best in the whole world!! Its so good they appeared on the news and even had to shut the restaurant down because of the demand for their beautiful rats!! The owner even had to go to court because it was attracting customers from other nearby restaurants towards them!! You can imagine they take health and safety of their customers very seriously!! Absolutely the best place for rat dishes!! Yumm”
