About The New Dawn Inn

The New Dawn Inn is a modern pub and restaurant in Gloucester, with a bar area and pictures by local artists on the walls. The kitchen cooks from fresh local ingredients in house, using trained chefs, and the menu includes pork belly, lamb, fish and chips and pan fried sea bass. Roast dinner is served for Sunday lunch, and a two-course set menu is available. Vegetarian and vegan choices include a vegan pie, and most dishes can be made gluten or dairy free on request, so guests with allergies can ring ahead to discuss their needs. Desserts include toffee pudding and crème brûlée. The bar pours real ales, a cocktail list and a wine selection, and a pub quiz night gives the room an evening activity beyond dinner. Reservations are required. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Pork belly is the dish diners name most, with the lamb close behind, both praised for flavour and generous portions served with plenty of vegetables. Steaks, fish and chips and a roast dinner also earn credit, and the toffee pudding and crème brûlée draw strong praise from those who made room for dessert. Service is described as friendly, helpful and welcoming, and several call the value reasonable. The criticism is sharper but less common. One diner found the food hit and miss, some of it so hot it seemed microwaved, with over salted, bland dishes that tasted like batch cooked frozen food and prices that did not match the quality. Vegetarian choices were called average, and a vegan pie was decent but very filling. One reviewer's earlier visit brought soggy sea bass without crispy skin, yet a return visit months later brought excellent food and much improved front of house service.

“We have just been here for the first time , I can honestly say its the best restaurant we have been too in a very very long time. Definitely the best roast dinner we have had at a restaurant. Also the staff were all exceptionally nice and helpful genuinely couldn't ask for better.”

“I would say an exceptional menu. A variety of meat and fish dishes as well as a few Veggie choices too. Even the dessert menu was great. Staff were good fun, really attentive and very pleasant. Great choices at reasonable prices.”

“Had dinner as i heard good things, however was left dissapointed, (BAD POINTS) the food was very hit and miss and came out very fast some of the food was so hot i thought it had been put in a microwave, the prices do not fit the quality that is served, tasted like batch cooked frozen goods, over salted and bland flavours. If you have elderly friends and family this is the place for them really (GOOD POINTS) The staff were very friendly, fast and efficient and the pub its self is nice for a drink”

“Stayed at a hotel nearby, didn't fancy the menu there so ventured out and am I glad I did! Awesome food, set menus 2 course at great value. Pork belly was some of the best I've had. Excellent food and service. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed!”
  • Pi Qui
“Very decent fish and chips. The main feature for us was the pudding. The toffee pudding was divine. The best I’ve ever tasted would highly recommend. The crème brûlée was wonderful and also the shortbread biscuits/ fruit on top and the orange makes a really stunning combination of flavours. The waitress was friendly and welcoming and gave us great recommendations. Next time we’re join in on the quiz night!”
