About Mermaid Fish & Chips
Mermaid Fish & Chips is a fish and chips takeaway at 6 Kingsholm Rd in Gloucester, opposite the Kingsholm rugby ground, where people pick up food before the rugby. The kitchen fries fish and chips to order, with cod in a battered coating, and chips can be paired with curry sauce. Anyone who asks when placing an order can have free scrumps, the batter bits, added to their food. Portions are large.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers come for the fish and chips, with the cod singled out for crispy, golden batter and tender, flaky fish, fried to order and served piping hot. Close behind are the chips and curry sauce, which one diner says are to die for. Portions are repeatedly called generous or huge, and several mention good value, one noting it beats the food inside the stadium before a rugby match. Friendly staff and quick service come up often, even with a queue out of the door. The picture is not uniform. One reviewer found the fish overcooked, tasteless and overpriced, and another called the food average to slightly below average with prices a bit high, a stop for when passing rather than a trip out of the way. One reviewer suggests asking for scrumps with an order, saying they come free, and another was remembered by staff, order and all, despite visiting only infrequently.

“Spotlessly clean, great welcome, remembering our order even though we are only in the area infrequently. Delicious piping hot fish and chips.”

“Prices are a bit high. The food is average or perhaps slightly below average. The service is quite fast and everything handled well. It is somewhere to go if you are hungry and passing by, rather than a place to go out of your way to visit.”

“Great spot for food before the rugby. Much better tasting and value for money than anything in the stadium. Huge portions and very tasty. No wonder the queue is out of the door.”

“Delivery was very fast, about 25 minutes, which is impressive on a Friday. Food was really nice. Cod- crispy and golden batter, cod was tender and flaky. Chips- well cooked, golden, fresh (not stale like some places tend to be) Portion sizes were generous too and it was good value for money. Would recommend and will definitely use again.”
