About NepaleseChef

NepaleseChef is an Indian and Nepalese restaurant on London Rd in Gloucester, with a dining room and a menu covering both cuisines across 73 dishes. Chicken momos appear alongside popadoms and pickles as a starter, with naan, including Peshwari naan, served as part of the meal. Beer and wine accompany the food, and the halal menu widens who can eat there. Guests are shown to their table rather than seating themselves, and reservations are recommended. The restaurant opens daily and runs its own delivery cars and couriers for those eating off site, with staff in uniform. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, high chairs suit families with young children, and free Wi-Fi is available in the dining room. Takeaway is also offered for those who prefer to eat elsewhere.

Customer Review Summary

Momos and rich, warming curries anchor most visits, with several diners singling out the Kathmandu Rice and Chicken Momos, the Cchate Milan and Mango Keshari, and popadoms with pickles as standout orders. Lamb dishes draw particular praise for being fork-tender, though one reviewer found a lamb starter tough and chewy, paired with an underseasoned pilau rice and curries that tasted too similar, leaving that visit feeling overpriced. Vegetarian and vegan diners note curries can be adapted, and one described a custom sweet, mild curry made specially for a fussy eater, along with samosas made with proper pastry rather than rice paper wrappers. Service is repeatedly called attentive and friendly, with staff arranging tables and offering recommendations, and delivery is described as swift with well presented couriers. The room itself draws mention for its Nepalese ceramics on display and generous portions that keep diners full. Repeat visits and recommendations to friends and family come up often, closing on multiple reviewers stating they plan to return regularly for takeaway or dine-in.

“Omg this place has left such a lasting impression on me I couldn't recommend it enough. The food was incredible I've never eaten food so flavorsome and so much to choose from. The staff here were so attentive beautifully arranging the table and cutlery and clearing everything quickly afterwards. Spacious with such a lovely atmosphere. It was quiet when I came but it was when the world cup started and late in the evening. I will definitely visit again.”

“Delicious and Abhay was great! Highly recommend the momos, dosa, bhutuwa and the Kathmandu chicken!”

“Food mediocre, quite tasty yet the naan was excellent; the pilau rice was overpowered with turmeric and tasteless. My lamb starter was tough and chewy garnished with a few sparse chunks of beetroot and carrot with a teaspoon of lettuce which was uninspiring. Both our curry dishes tasted very similar. Service was adequate not over friendly. Overall, overpriced in my view.”

“Absolutely brilliant find. The Nepalese food here is the real deal — proper momos, rich and warming curries, and flavours you just don’t get at your average Indian takeaway. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the portions were generous. If you’re in Gloucester and want something a bit different from the usual, this is well worth your time. I’ll be back.”
