Quick info
About Café Rose
Café Rose is a cafe on Severn Rd in Gloucester, set on a side street in the Docks area near Gloucester Quays and next door to a garage. Dogs are welcome inside, and the team gives them sausages while their owners eat. The menu includes a full English breakfast and avocado on sourdough toast with halloumi and a fried egg. Coffee runs to oat milk lattes and oat milk cappuccinos, and a latte comes on a small wooden tray with the café's name on it. Cakes and biscuit-style bakes sit on display. The space is small, with a half dozen tables and a long bar table with stools along the window.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return mostly for the cooked breakfast, praised as hot, well cooked and good value. Close behind are the avocado, halloumi and fried egg on sourdough, with eggs described as perfectly cooked, and the coffee, where an oat milk latte and an oat milk cappuccino get singled out, the latter as the best one reviewers had around here. The latte arrives on a small wooden tray with the cafe's name, which a couple of reviewers mention. Several describe a warm welcome and friendly staff, and the menu gets credit for range, from traditional breakfasts to vegan choices. Cakes and a Biscoff and white chocolate cookie also draw notice. Reviewers note the cafe is small and looks underwhelming from outside, yet feels clean and homely. No recurring complaint appears. Dog owners come up repeatedly, and one family says staff handled their daughter's allergies and gave the kids a chocolate. Two reviewers say their dog was given sausages, one in a paw print bowl with more slices than requested.

“I visited here at the beginning of the year and accidentally left another cafe my review. I had to rectify this as soon as I noticed... I couldn't recommend this place enough from the service provided to the delicious food. They were able to cater to my daughter's allergies, treated the kids to a chocolate and even gave my dog a sausage while we ate. I personally haven't experienced service this welcoming before, shall definitely be returning.”

“The Café Rose is located close enough to Gloucester Quays that it may as well be floating in the dock ⛵️. Don't fret. It isn't. Owned and run by the same family since c.1750 it's well established as one of the premier eateries of Gloucestershire. John Stafford Smith is said to have enjoyed many a cinnamon roll iced latte when he wasn't playing the organ (oo-er, missus. Sounds a bit rude) in the nearby Cathedral. It's likely that he penned The Anacreontic Song 🎵 whilst sitting here, the very piece of music which our American cousins adopted as the tune for their anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. It's rumoured that locally born Sir Alastair Cook planned batting strategies whilst sitting outside at the back. He felt obliged to sit there so as not to be recognised as his favourite tipple was Yorkshire Tea, which he ate accompanied by a Biscoff and white chocolate cookie. The hostess with the mostest, the delightfully ☺️ wonderful Ella was most welcoming, even though I talk with a Smoogy accent. There was no point during my extended stay that I ever thought she might want to spit at me. The incredible Dan (the main man) was equally friendly. It is he who prepares the tasty (tasty, very very tasty) comestibles. My latte was large and luxurious, didn't have an outstanding swirly but looked the bizzo anyway as it was presented on a Café Rose tray type saucery wooden platter thingy. There are lovely 😍 biscuity and cakey things to enjoy. The hot munchables are made, with love as the main ingredient, to order, and very well presented garnished with green 🥗 stuff, if you want them to be. As a northern bod I firmly believe the only green to appear on a plate 🍽 would be mushy peas. They let me in so naturally they also allow our four-legged friends in too 🌭🦬🐕🐩🐈⬛️🦓🐈🐄🐪🐫. This is a must visit venue if you're thirsty or hungry in Gloucester. If you're both hungry AND thirsty go twice!”
