About Porter & Rye
Porter & Rye is a steak house at 1131 Argyle St in Glasgow, with a menu that takes its direction from New York and centres on dry-aged beef. The porterhouse is dry-aged with whisky and coffee, and diners choose their own steak knife to go with it. Other cuts include fillet, sirloin, rib-eye and chateaubriand, and beef dripping chips come alongside. Small tacos are on the starter list for sharing, and cocktails run next to the steaks. The restaurant opens daily, and reservations are required. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Steak anchors the praise, with reviewers singling out a dry aged porterhouse, a fillet cooked blue, the chateaubriand and a T-bone on the bone. Close behind are the sharing starters, including small tacos described as two delicate mouthfuls, plus the ox cheek, the focaccia, the whiskey peppercorn sauce and beef dripping chips called outstanding. Staff come across as friendly, knowledgeable and personable rather than robotic, and one reviewer credits them with brilliant wine recommendations. Dessert and drinks get a nod, though one reviewer found the cocktails basic and another thought the scallops were large and fresh but too subtly seasoned. The sharpest complaint comes from one lunch diner who reports finding a clump of dirt and sand in the salad served with the steak. Staff apologised and offered a partial discount, which that reviewer felt was a little calculated. A few describe returning for birthdays and anniversaries, and one liked being able to choose their own steak knife.

“We had the most amazing time at the restaurant, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. The starters were delicious. The steaks were absolutely amazing. The cocktails were basic. Also found out the restaurant was dog friendly, it was nice seeing some furry friends during lunch.”

“I went for Sunday roast. I didn't eat Sunday roast. The steak menu was just too good to ignore. The MacCallan and coffee dry aged porterhouse looked like something that was worth blowing the budget for. I might have made some bad decisions in life but that wasn't one of them. It was perfection in meat form. Or better than perfection if such a thing can exist. Service great. Dessert great. Drinks really good. Steak - OMG how can something this wonderful exist in this physical universe!”

“Cannot say enough about this place. We landed in scotland and popped in for a quick lunch, amazing. The next evening we came with friends and had the BEST steak and more. Rose was the best server ❤️ we will be coming back again before we leave back to Alaska. If you haven't tried this restaurant, you're missing out.”

“Unfortunately, I found a large clump of dirt and sand in the salad served with the steak, which was very disappointing at this price point. The staff apologised and offered a partial discount. It felt a little calculated, but I didn’t want to spend my lunch arguing over the bill and ruin the experience, so I accepted it. The service was friendly throughout, and the staff even helped cut the steak. The beef dripping chips were genuinely outstanding – easily the best thing we ordered. The rib-eye was decent, though I actually preferred the sirloin. The scallops were large and fresh, but the seasoning was a little too subtle for my taste. Overall, I left with mixed feelings. While there were some highlights, finding dirt in the salad overshadowed the entire meal and unfortunately isn’t something I’d be willing to overlook or return for.”

“Utterly outstanding. The Ox Cheek was ridiculously good, but the T Bone Steak on the bone was off the chain. Please believe the hype, this is a stunning restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful experience.”
