Customer Review Summary
Pad Thai is the dish reviewers raise most, with one diner calling it the best they have had in Glasgow, though another found the version with chicken and prawns not quite a true pad Thai and the prawns more like shrimp. Close behind are the Thai fries and loaded fries, the pepper squid and the cheeseburger springrolls, which one table called fantastic. Katsu curry, nasi goreng, boa buns and satay skewers also turn up on large group orders, and the boozy brunch is described as having big portions and great drinks. Complaints are specific. One reviewer says the student cocktail deal was honoured on the first round, then refused on the second for lacking a physical ID, and the full price was charged on the bill. Another found a bao bun missing its noodle salad, the seasoned chips unseasoned and the brunch cocktails pitiful. A few call the prices high for the portions, and one found the dragon prawn noodle salty. Several praise the friendly staff, including one who fetched an ice pack for a customer's injured leg.

“Forgot this place was here as we used to go to the one in Merchant Square all the time before it closed. So glad it is still open and as good as we remembered. Food was excellent we had some small plates - super Thai fries deserve a special mention as they are great. Pad Thai was also lovely but everything we ordered was really good. Cocktails were also excellent and so was the service. Sadly it wasn't very busy so there wasn't much of an atmosphere but it was a mid month Wednesday. Will definitely be going again soon.”

“Been in a few times before and always liked the food so tonight, I took a party of seven in for dinner before strolling up to Theatre Royal for a show. The food and service was superb. Around our table there was Thai curries, katsu curries, pad Thai, boa buns, satay skewers, prawn tempuras, Nasi Goreng and more. The most popular dishes from Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian and Thai cuisine all condensed onto one crowd-pleaser of a menu. The staff were really good at explaining the menu for anyone who had questions. Having spent a lot of time in Thailand, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to Thai food and this is genuinely the best Pad Thai, I’ve ever had in Glasgow. Music was good and at a perfect level, not overbearing but definitely allowed you to talk at your table without straining to hear or be heard. Really cool place and spotlessly clean toilets. Would wholeheartedly recommend.”

“We visited Bar Soba Glasgow after seeing the sign advertising student discount cocktails for £6.50. When we first walked in, we asked about the student discount cocktails where the waiter didn’t even know they done. We showed him the sign and he went ‘ oh maybe we do I’ll check’ we showed our digital student IDs and our cocktails were served, there were selected few included in this offer. However, when we tried to order another round, the waiter suddenly told us that we needed a physical student ID to receive the student price. This was confusing because our digital IDs had already been accepted for the first order. Since we specifically came because of the student offer, I asked to cancel the second order and requested the bill instead. Unfortunately, when the bill arrived, we had been charged full price for the cocktails, despite having shown valid student IDs earlier. I showed the ‘ manager’ which states on their own website that the bar accepts ‘ digital alternatives’. She was not happy about this and printed out another bill and slammed it down on the counter without any word spoken. Overall, the experience was very disappointing, staff were all over the place. The policy around student IDs was inconsistent, and it felt unfair to advertise a student deal and then not honour it after already accepting the IDs. Clearer communication and consistency would make a big difference.”

“Bar soba is usually my favourite restaurant but we were quite disappointed when we went last Saturday. We got the boozy brunch deal and the cocktails we were served were quite pitiful, and in unusual glasses. When I ordered a Bao Bun (which is meant to come with a noodle salad and seasoned fries, which it usually does and is still advertised on the menu!) the noodles were missing. When I asked the server why, she said it’s either or, but their menu states both. There are also vegan items listed as veggie but when you enquire you’re told they are vegan. :/ We also had to ask for seasoning on the seasoned chips are this was missing.”
