Quick info
About Shish Mahal Restaurant
On Park Rd in Glasgow, Shish Mahal Restaurant is an Indian restaurant at number 60-68. The naan breads here are massive, and a single one is big enough to share between 2 or 3 people, so ordering one for the table suits a group. Peshawari naan is on the menu for those who want something sweet alongside their curry. Chicken tikka masala is a main dish to look for, and pakora starters come in mixed, cauliflower and veg, and original versions. A set lunch menu is offered for daytime visits. Soft drinks and low-alcohol beer are also available.

Customer Review Summary
Chicken tikka masala is the dish reviewers praise most, called the best one ever with every spice singing, and enjoyed alongside an enormous Peshawari naan. Close behind are the naan breads, one called the best outside India and another warned as massive enough for two or three people, plus pakoras, samosa chaat, jalfrezi and malai kofta. Many describe friendly, welcoming staff who chatted and gave recommendations, and one regular since the 1980s says a garden carry-out is as good as ever. Criticism is sharper but less frequent. One diner found the chicken dansak soupy and tasteless and the king prawn pathia bland, with the meat seemingly not cooked in the sauce. Another found the set lunch full of add ons and the food reheated. A birthday diner described unwelcoming staff, unrefrigerated Irn Brus, and plates slammed onto the naan taken home as leftovers. Another diner, though, was still offered the lunch menu deal more than an hour after it ended.

“We were recommended to try the famous shish Mahal Restaurant, park road in glasgow from friends. We certainly are extremely spoilt for fabulous Indian food here in Stirling and so our bar was set high. Saturday afternoon and only a few tables were taken, service was very friendly and efficient, our food sadly was not what we were expecting, we had the set lunch menu, but all the standard usual items elsewhere were add ons, even service on a sizzle plate. Food which just seemed to been reheated to order, however my nan bread was probably the best I've had outside of India, definitely the highlight of the meal. Not a bad meal, but in future we shall be sticking to the mint leaf and other favourites closer to home in Stirling.”

“Great food and great service. They offered us the lunch menu deal even if we arrived more than one hour after was finished. The original pakora was really good and the currys amazing. Be aware the naan bread is massive so order one for 2 o 3 people”

“As our last night in Glasgow we had to pay tribute to the birthplace of an Indian-British takeout classic. The staff here were so friendly and welcoming, giving us tons of recommendations and chatting with us about our trip.”

“I have been a fan of the Shish Mahal since the 1980s and I can honestly say it's as good now as it was back then, yesterday we had a fantastic carry-out in the garden and it was absolutely delicious. Asif & family his staff are definitely still the best, no doubt about it👌”
