Customer Review Summary
The geda chunky noodles are the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split. Fans call them chewy in a garlicky sauce and unlike anything they have had, while others found them greasy, overly salty and lacking flavour. Dumplings come close behind and draw steadier praise, from boiled pork dumplings one diner calls the best in the UK to pan fried pork and prawn versions with crispy bottoms. Reviewers also single out the sour soup rice, sweet and sour ribs, tofu chunks and wok fried rice with Chinese sausage and preserved vegetables. Several describe the spicy flavours as authentic to Guizhou and the staff as friendly. Complaints centre on consistency: the chicken thigh in chilli broth was called oily and too salty with sparse chicken, two diners found the squid tasted frozen, and one reports being left unattended for ages. Two reviewers suggest booking ahead. One diner was served instant noodles in salty broth after the kitchen ran out of rice noodles.

“This is one of the most unique restaurants I’ve come across in Glasgow. It serves truly authentic Guizhou cuisine, and their “凯里酸汤烫饭” is especially genuine and full of character. The other dishes at Wee Wan are also delicious, and the sauce on the sweet and sour ribs is incredibly rich and flavourful. I came here with a friend who is originally from Guizhou, China, and she was genuinely amazed by how authentic the flavours were. She said the food here made her feel as though she had returned to her hometown. I’ve been to many Chinese restaurants in Glasgow, but what makes this place special is that it has not only earned a lot of love from local residents in the surrounding area, but has also managed to preserve the authentic flavours of Guizhou, China. That is something quite rare. I really hope Glasgow will see more Chinese restaurants like this in the future, rather than more of the same copy-and-paste style Chinese takeaways.”

“The dishes are extremely delicious. Each of the four of us has our own favorite among them. We especially recommend the sour soup rice, stir-fried squid, crispy sugar-coated spareribs, pickled cabbage and rice cake, and mind blowing homemade "geda".”

“What an absolute gem of a spot. I had such a lovely meal here and left feeling completely satisfied. The food was packed with incredible flavours and fresh ingredients. I was particularly impressed by the dumplings, which were served perfectly crispy on the bottom. The presentation throughout the meal was beautiful, right down to the patterned ceramic bowls. Everything was fresh, hot, and honestly delicious. I cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu soon.”

“My friend and I visited The Real Wan for the first time because of its high ratings, but the experience was extremely disappointing. The food was significantly overpriced for the quality we received. I ordered the braised beef and mooli noodle soup, but was told they had run out of rice noodles, they simply substituted them with instant noodles. Charging £15 for what was essentially instant noodles in salty broth is unacceptable. To be honest, a packet of instant noodles prepared at home would have tasted better than what was served. My friend ordered the chunky noodle dish, but it was so greasy and overly salty that she couldn’t even finish half of it. Our bill came to over £40, yet the quality of the food was nowhere near worth that price. We could have bought better-quality instant noodles and ingredients from a Chinese supermarket for under £10 and had a far more enjoyable meal. Given the restaurant’s reputation, we had high expectations, but the food was poor, the value for money was terrible, and the overall experience was incredibly disappointing. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning and will not recommend this place to anybody.”
