About Cathay Cuisine
Cathay Cuisine is a Chinese takeaway in Glasgow at 121 Clarkston Rd, trading under this name after previously operating as Eastern Legend. Anyone who remembers the old name will find the same takeaway under its new one. The menu runs from starters like prawn toast and steamed buns to dishes such as salt and chilli chicken and sweet and sour chicken balls in batter. Chips come with several of the dishes. Orders are taken by phone, and the kitchen works from a menu of Chinese cuisine built around familiar takeaway plates.

Customer Review Summary
Late, cold delivery dominates the reviews, with diners describing orders that arrive hours behind schedule after repeated calls to the restaurant, each time promised the food was on its way. Chips, rice and spring rolls are described as cold, soggy or swimming in oil by the time they land. Food quality draws a second stream of complaints. Salt and chilli chicken and chips are called fatty, soggy or covered in black pepper, the chicken fried rice dry and tasteless, and the sweet and sour chicken balls doughy with a thin sauce. Several longtime customers say standards have slipped, and one calls the person answering the phone rude. Praise is scarce. One reviewer recommends the spring rolls highly, though the same reviewer says the crispy noodles are not homemade as claimed. Another received a cold order and the restaurant quickly sent a fresh replacement.

“Took hours to arrive and food was cold, bland and soggy when it came, had to call them four times before my food came and then it was not nice!”

“Consistently bland food throughout the meal we bought - rice was terrible, sweet and sour sauce tasted of nothing, chicken foo yung had no flavour, chewy chicken in the noodle soup. To add to the insult the portions were meagre.”

“Food arrived cold, but they quickly fixed that by sending another fresh order. Homemade crispy noodles are NOT homemade, they are just Lucky boat noodles fried to make them crispy. Springrolls are amazing, highly recommend them.”

“From ordering via just eat to delivery, we waited two hours for food to arrive. We received a notification 45 minutes after ordering to say food was on the way. This restaurant is less than 15 minutes away. We then received another notification to say the food had been delivered 40 minutes after that. It hadn't, so we called the restaurant who told us it would arrive soon. The order arrived 20 minutes after this, all understandably cold, having been driven around for an hour. If the food had been hot or even warm, some of it would have been great. - the jack Daniels beef has great flavour but as it was thin shredded and deep fried it was incredibly chewy and inedible. The beef curry and rice roll has good flavour but again was cold. We ordered two different flavours (chicken satay and char sui pork) of steamed buns at £6.90 each. Naively we thought we'd either get a large steamed bun or a couple of small steamed buns for this price however we received one small steamed bun per portion that were cold, both of the same indeterminate flavour and no one could convince me they weren't the frozen microwave itsu buns you can buy 6 for £5 from Asda. We also ordered a Chinese chicken satay pizza. We did not expect to receive a cheap store bought pizza, battered and deep fried and then have some chicken satay placed on top. If you're selling a pizza crunch with satay on the top that is fine but you should advertise it this way, and not as a chicken satay pizza. We were seriously misled and disappointed. Would also not recommend the salt and chilli chicken ball and chips spice bag. Only three chicken balls in it and no salt and chilli flavour to any of it. A big order as I had people over but it was overall very disappointing. Big shame as the menu had so much potential.”

“Food is ok but order home delivery at your peril. It took 1 hour 20 mins to deliver the food had cooled. It needed microwaved. Chips not great because of this. Poor show”
