Customer Review Summary

Diners come for the Northern Chinese, Dongbei style cooking, with the spicy fish dish eaten with rice and the chilli chicken among the standouts, and one reviewer also praises the dumplings. Close behind are the salt and chilli squid, described as tender tentacles in a light batter that stayed crisp, and the beef flank with mooli, called tender. Fried noodles and vegetable spring rolls also earn praise, and one reviewer explains that the "fragrant waist" is fatty large intestines. Several mention quick service and a clean room, though one finds it a little cold. The menu is long and has no pictures, so one reviewer suggests asking the proprietor about unfamiliar dish names and skipping the British Chinese section at the back. One diner found the prawns and noodles completely dry with no sauce, then met extra charges for sauce and takeaway boxes, and had to ask for glasses and a second pair of chopsticks. Another says the guobaorou carries too much sauce. Portions are called generous and huge, and a family of four found three dishes, a soup and rice more than plenty.

“Restaurant a little cold but I will always suffer it for rice and noodle! The food is fresh, service is 10/10 and it’s just delicious! My all time favourite Chinese!”

“We ordered two dishes, prawns and noodles and both were completely dry with no sauce at all. We asked for some sauce, and they brought us black bean sauce and soy sauce, but we were surprised to see a £6 charge just for the black bean sauce, which is really overpriced. There were also no napkins, salt, pepper, or sauces on the table, even though every other table seemed to have them. I even had to ask for chopsticks, and the waiter only brought one pair, so we had to ask again to get another set. For our drinks, they brought cans without any glasses, and again we had to ask for glasses separately. Overall, the service was really disappointing , not even a “thank you” when we paid. When we asked for takeaway boxes for our leftover food, they charged over £1 for each box, which is unusual because most restaurants provide them for free. Finally, they don’t accept card payments or bank transfers , only cash which was very inconvenient. Overall, the food was average, the service was poor, and the extra charges made the experience quite disappointing. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.”

“Quite a big restaurant, looks small from the outside. There are roughly 8-10 tables . There is quite a book of a menu. There are so many dishes, hard to work out the traditional dishes if you are not familiar with them . They have the usual British Chinese food towards the back of the menu. As a family of four ( teen and small child) we picked three dishes and a soup and three portions of rice. This was more than plenty for us. The dishes took about 20 mins to arrive. Probably less time than it took for us to look at the menu and decide . We found the dishes were packed full of flavour. The cold chilli oil chicken didn't quite pack the punch of spiciness I was expecting but still nicely pouched chicken . The beef flank and mooli , the beef was tender and melted in your mouth . The mooli was soft but held it shape. The star of meal was the salt and chilli squid. Instead of squid main body parts it was the tentacles. Tender pieces each coated in a light batter and remained crispy till the last piece was eaten . Not overly spicy but lots of good flavours. Over all the portions were generous. The winter melon and pork soup was served in a giant bowl. Clear light broth soup that the children enjoyed The one waiter was polite and patient with us. There was no rushing us to order. The bathroom, there is one unisex bathroom that is clean and large ( disabled toilet big) . It's a casual restaurant vibe. Would visit here again if we are in the area. And would recommend it for anyone looking for traditional Chinese food.”

“A typical Chinese restaurant. The quality of food is good. Service was quick. We arrived while the staff was dining. It was late in the afternoon. Check out the dishes we had. We would say the best of the two was to fried noodles. That was very good. The rice was good too but the noodles was better. Vegetable spring rolls did not disappoint.”
