About The Chapterhouse Cafe

The Chapterhouse Cafe is a breakfast restaurant and cafe on Main St in Glasgow, run in collaboration with the Parish church of Bothwell and using the church car park for visitors arriving by car. The menu runs through classic breakfast plates, jacket potatoes and breakfast rolls, with roll and sausage among the options, and vegetarian dishes are available with ingredients disclosed on request. Baked goods round out the counter, including scones with jam and cream alongside fruit cake and strawberry cake. The entrance is step-free, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Outdoor seating suits those who prefer to eat outside, though dogs are not permitted inside. It operates as a walk-in cafe, open Tuesday to Saturday, daytime only, and closed on Mondays and Sundays. The car park shared with the church remains available throughout opening hours.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast draws the most praise at this café, with reviewers singling out the classic breakfast and fresh breakfast rolls, including a roll and sausage, described as hot, tasty and delicious. Close behind are the baked goods, including strawberry cake, fruit cake and a scone with jam and cream, plus a jacket potato and curly fries. Coffee is called good and excellent, and a decent pot of tea gets a mention. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and chatty, and the space is called clean and bright. On the downside, one reviewer found a roll, sausage, cake and two small coffees a little pricey, one regretted that well behaved dogs are not allowed inside, and another arrived on a Monday to find it closed despite the listing. A vegetarian diner was told exactly which ingredients went into the baked goods.

“Thru are actually closed on a Monday although says here it's open. I would have loved to try their brunch but need to wait until another day unfortunately 😕”
  • Iain MacLeod
“The place was spotlessly clean. The service was excellent. Coffee good, fruit cake nice, roll and sausage good. But for two small "regular" coffees, 1 x cake, 1 x roll and sausage £14.30 was a little bit pricey.”
