About Pelican Cafe

Breakfast rolls anchor the order at Pelican Cafe, a café on Shettleston Road in Glasgow, with a roll and links among the choices. Customers order at the counter, where staff serve from behind it, and no booking is taken. Cakes and traybakes are sold alongside the cooked food, including strawberry tart, while tea, coffee and juice cover the drinks. The full breakfast can be packed to take away, and delivery through Just Eat and Uber Eats reaches anyone eating off site. High chairs sit at the window seating, making space for families with young children. The premises are small, and the doors open daily through the daytime only.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast rolls anchor most visits: one first-timer singles out the roll and links and the quality of the sausage, while another finds the black pudding in a takeaway full breakfast excellent yet the portion small, the roll barely buttered on one side and the egg already burst on arrival. Close behind sit the sweet counter and the coffee, with a strawberry tart and caramel shortcake called really good and the coffee described as brilliant. Others name a chicken tikka toastie one reviewer rates the best they have had, and a home made chicken noodle soup ordered through delivery. Counter staff draw repeated warmth for being welcoming and hard working. The complaints cluster around price, with a longtime customer saying two rolls, a tea and a small cake now cost far more than the place once charged, and one delivery order that never arrived, with staff on the phone blaming the platform. A few note the premises feel small, and one diner recalls another customer quietly settling their bill when their phone payment failed.

“Sadly this place hasn't just went downhill its fallen off a cliff. Produce is poor and my goodness the prices are ridiculous. X2 rolls, cup of tea and a small cake almost £13. It's not a bistro in London jesus! This place used to be great & fairly priced & full of tradesmen because it was fair & decent, not now unfortunately.”

“This is a very popular little café. Loads of Uber eats going out and people in and out all the time. The lady behind the desk is lovely and welcoming. It smells nice and it's clean as a whistle. Looking out the window while sitting on a high chair... loving it... even if the view is a busy road.xx The coffee is brilliant!!”

“First time I've been. Roll and links was great. Quality of sausage very good. Also bought strawberry tart and caramel shortcake. Really good Also. My google pay on phone wasn't working and I didn't have my card with me, rather embarrassing but my fault, a guy in the cafe paid it for me, there is good in this world. He wouldn't let me take his details so i could transfer him the money. Guy was a gent and a scholar. Staff were great about it to. Hope the next time im in, that kind man is there so I can return the favour. Cheers again mate 👍”
