Customer Review Summary

Pancakes lead the praise, with bacon and maple syrup in one account, followed by fish and chips with crispy outside and light, fluffy chips, an Egg Royale one regular calls the best they have had, and a soup and sandwich deal. Close behind are a bacon brie panini with mint pea soup, a loaded bagel, a tuna sandwich and cakes to take away. Staff are called friendly and welcoming in most reviews, and reviewers mention plenty of seating indoors and outside, with Sunday lunch packed. The complaints are few but specific. One diner found the potato so so and wanted the panini cheese melted. A family with toddlers described a very different lunch: an order taken wrong, a dry burger after asking for no tomato, wrong sides on the kids' meals with no apology, and a long wait to pay at the bar. Elsewhere, one reviewer notes staff were happy to accommodate menu swaps, and another came back twice.

“Recommended by by Percey down in Derbyshire as I was travelling through Double espresso cappuccino and a breakfast minus the egg just for preference”

“Really tasty food and amazing value. Really good menu with plenty of choice of mains and sides. Love that you can get brunch all day. Staff are lovely. One of my favourite places to grab some food!”

“Really disappointed with our experience here yesterday. After passing regularly and seeing the good reviews we decided to stop by for some lunch in the sun. The young guy who welcomed us was nice, we sat in the corner as we had two toddlers with us (place was very quiet only three tables in but we both work in hospitality so we wanted to keep out the way) Unfortunetly that’s where the positivity stops. Service was all over the place, our order was taken completly wrong, had to prompt the girl four times to complete our order and get the correct utensils required. My burger came out dry because I had asked for no tomato and rather than ask or put the relish on the side I was served a very dry and very underwhelming £16 burger.. the sides for the kids lunch were wrong and was clearly just forgotten about which is absolutely fine these things happen but no apology. The manager was incredibly rude to our young children. We felt very unwelcome and even after asking for the bill as we simply wanted to leave we waited for over 15 minutes until paying at the bar. Sadly won’t be back.”

“What a fantastic place! The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with quality ingredients. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sticky glazed chicken was amazing, and even the salads were fresh and packed with flavour. The chunky chips and onion rings were some of the best we’ve had! The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was excellent from start to finish. We’ll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend The But & Ben to anyone looking for a great meal. Five stars all the way! 🌟”
