About Old Inns Cafe

Set on a petrol station site at 1 Old Inns Roundabout, Old Inns Cafe is a cafe just off the motorway near Cumbernauld, which puts a hot meal and a car park within easy reach of a journey. Most trade goes out as takeaway, with a small sit-down area for those staying, and orders are placed at the counter and called through to the cook, who prepares the food fresh in front of you. Bacon rolls and other filled rolls come with fillings added to order, and the hot and cold selection runs to a spicy hoagie wrap. It opens daily during the daytime, and there is no booking, so customers simply walk in. Outdoor seats let people eat in the open air, high chairs suit families with young children, and a step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without stairs. A customer toilet is available on site. It is often busy.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return for the friendly staff and quick service, with the bacon roll singled out as very nice, its bacon and bread both praised. Several describe fresh food cooked in front of them, a good selection, and reasonable prices, and one mentions a spicy hoagie wrap that was huge but not very spicy. Others note cake, a small sit-down area mainly serving takeaway customers, and a warm welcome even for a 14m coach. A couple of reviewers say it is a bit pricy. The complaints are about service and the car park. One regular says the counter worker shouted an incorrect roll order to the cook, then gave dirty looks when it was corrected, and the order was still wrong at home. Another says staff chatting ignored a request for boiled onions on a roll, which then came piled with mustard. A separate reviewer describes a car park of broken tarmac and potholes, saying a pothole damaged the car and left them stuck for hours. Several reviewers mention new management and a busy cafe off the motorway.

“This place is a nightmare zone. It's not a services! It's got a car park floor that's just chunks of broken tarmac and potholes. Broke the car on a pothole, couldn't go anywhere. Was stuck for 6 hours. Petrol station staff nice. Because of this hell hole of a 'services' missed a friend's birthday BBQ. Unforgivable! I reckon it has been a Little Chef once, might have been ok in the 70s. Now AVOID. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.”

“Decent selection of hot and cold food, bit pricy, but what isn't these days, spicy hoagie wrap was huge, not very spicy though.”

“Would usually give this place a 5 stars but my partner got rolls this morning and when ordering the girl at the desk shouted an incorrect order to the cook. my partner then tried to correct the order and got stinking attitude off of the girl and got the evils and when home found order to be incorrect Been using this place for years won’t be back if that’s what you walk into now bad attitude and dirty looks = losing a customer 👍👍👍”
