Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the food and cakes, with a cheese and tomato toastie, a mozzarella, basil and tomato sandwich, and bacon rolls named as standouts. One diner calls the tomato soup the best they have had, and others single out a chorizo, pepper and feta ciabatta, a chocolate and pear cake and a custard croissant. Close behind is the coffee, described as great and the best in the West, with one reviewer who walked two miles for a long black two days running. The friendly, chatty staff and the owner who stops to talk come up repeatedly, along with the music, though one reviewer finds it too loud at times. Some note a limited food menu and slower service, and the absence of WiFi is framed by one as a plus because customers chat more. One reviewer describes a dirty table and unclean cups, and a second cup that was just as dirty, with staff reacting indifferently. Another reviewer mentions dogs being welcome and the owner offering all milk types.

“We took the only available table, though in hindsight we should have left immediately. It was dirty, and no one informed us that orders had to be placed at the counter. After cleaning the table myself, I went to check and then placed our order. When the drinks arrived, I was appalled to find the cups were unclean. I asked for a replacement, but the second cup was just as dirty. To make matters worse, the staff member’s reaction when I pointed this out showed complete indifference. Overall, the coffee shop was poorly maintained, with used plates and cups left on tables while staff appeared more focused on eating and drinking than keeping the space clean and tidy”

“Great atmosphere. & music selection. Regular custom. Always reasonably busy. * No WiFi * which is better as customers chat to each other more than elsewhere. Limited food menu. & slower service - but worth the wait as coffee is best in the West.”
  • Tracy MacLachlan
“Walking by and this spot looked just right and it did not disappoint. We shared the italian ham, cheese, aubergine, tomato sauce on foccacia + tomato soup. That was the BEST tomato soup I've ever had plus the the sandwich was creative, generous, and delicious. Service is friendly, music is great. Check it out...”

“Great guy serving great breakfast and good coffee. The music gets a little too loud sometimes, but it’s not unbearable. All in all, it’s a good place for breakfast”
  • Mandy McMillan
“I walked 2 miles to get this coffee two days in a row. So good and I’m fussy about my coffee. Long black. Dog friendly. Staff lovely”
