About The Star Bar

Lunch is the anchor at The Star Bar, a pub on Eglinton Street in Glasgow that also runs as a live music venue and restaurant. The kitchen builds a three course meal around a homemade lentil soup to start, a main such as mince and tatties, and a hot rice pudding to finish, with a supplement on certain mains. Plates arrive by table service at the small wooden tables in the Lounge, where the room is finished in wood and leather. Pints and soft drinks are ordered alongside the food. There is no booking, so seats go to whoever walks in, and the doors open daily. A step free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without a kerb or stair to manage, and dogs are welcome inside with their owners.

Customer Review Summary

The three course lunch dominates almost every account, described as home cooking done simply and well, the kind of food several compare to a grandmother's kitchen. Lentil soup draws the most repeated praise, with more than one diner saying they could have managed a second bowl, and the mains named most often are scotch pie with chips and beans and mince with tatties, followed by hot rice pudding with fruit or fruit cocktail with ice cream. The value is what reviewers return to again and again, several noting drinks are priced modestly too. Staff come in for consistent mention as friendly and chatty, with one visitor describing a single server buzzing around looking after the whole room. Interiors are called basic, wood and leather in a vintage Glasgow pub style, and one diner concedes it is unlikely to win awards for refinement. An English visitor and several locals arrived after a food YouTuber's review, and both found the regulars welcoming and curious rather than closed off.

As an Englishman , walking into a pub in Scotland can come with mixed experiences. As soon as you open your mouth you are “ outed “ . In this bar which was recommended by a you tuber “ Gary eats “ it wasn’t a problem, in fact people spoke to me with curiosity. They never asked directly but wondered what I was doing there . I explained I was there for the £7 three course meal . In 2026 this is 1980 prices 🏋️. A soup a main meal and dessert . So I was in Glasgow on a day trip and this was lunch . I have to say , what I received was like it was made in somebody’s house ! Basic but very tasty . I got veg and lentil soup with barley for starters , then mince with tatties and beans which was a substantial amount as well ! Then fruit cocktail with ice cream . Wow ! I was fed for the day for the price of a Big Mac . So I highly recommend trying the star bar for yourselves because the food the prices and the community ambience in the pub is like re-visiting a time when pubs were the hub of the community. Thanks for having me star bar !

Dropped in for lunch today, welcomed by a lovely lady and the banter inside was brilliant, such a good vibe. Had the three course lunch for £7, amazing value, Soup was homemade and off the scale, could've had another bowl. Scotch pie chips and beans with gravy was perfect, chips were super crispy and fluffy inside. Had the hot rice pudding with fruit. This place is a Glasgow institution and I will definitely return. Loved the place

I visited a couple of years back while working away , great food, great value and friendly staff. I’m posting after watching Gary Eats when he visited to do a review in his YouTube channel as I have shown on the photo hear. This place is pretty unique nowadays so please visit when you’re in the area.

Lived in the Southside my whole life and have never visited the Star Bar until today. Upon viewing the glowing review from YouTuber Gary Eats, I visited with my dad and was not disappointed. Lentil soup for starter, pie, chips & beans for mains and rice pudding with fruit for pudding. Incredible value, thoroughly tasty food in a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. £8 in total for the 3 courses, (£1 supplement for rice pudding). Staff were friendly and anttentive, and seemed to have a great rapport with all the other customers coming in. Worth mentioning the drinks prices were extremely reasonable. Definitely give it a try!

Came here today with my partner to try the lunch menu. Foods lovely. Simple, home cooked style meals done very well. Soup was really good wanted another bowl😂. Staff really friendly. 3 courses each, coffee & can of coke for £14. Can’t be beaten. An amazing thing to do for the locals, very admirable. Will be back❤️

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
