About The Radnor Arms

On Christ Church Rd in Folkestone, The Radnor Arms is a pub with a bar area separate from its restaurant/dining space, running a menu of 40 dishes across both. The kitchen pairs traditional pub cooking with less expected additions such as curried cauliflower tacos, alongside the Spiced Crispy Buttermilk Chicken burger and a half roast chicken served with crunchy potatoes and broccoli. Sides include truffle fries and sweetheart cabbage with green sauce and pomegranate. The room has copper decor and log burners, and meals are brought out course by course, starters ahead of mains. A service charge is added to the bill. Reservations are recommended. The entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor seating is available for those who prefer to eat outside. Dogs are welcome throughout, including inside the pub. It opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers consistently single out the burgers, especially the Quattro formaggi and buttermilk chicken versions, as a highlight, with the beef cheek pasta, flatbread with beef, half roast chicken, and scotch eggs also drawing praise, alongside a beer and wine selection several call impressive. The setting comes up again and again too, described as cosy and warm, with copper decor, log burners, and a dog-friendly welcome that solo diners and families both mention, including surprise birthday touches like a candle and "Happy Birthday." Staff attentiveness is a recurring thread, with individual servers repeatedly credited for going above and beyond, including accommodating a hearing-impaired guest and an autistic child. Against this, one detailed account describes a reserved roast dinner service going wrong: a group of six seated outside the restaurant area, drinks arriving after the food, cold plates, undercooked beef, inadequate vegetable portions that staff asked them to share, and a 12.5% service charge added without warning or apology. That same reviewer had previously enjoyed the pub but said they would not return.

“An appalling experience from start to finish We booked The Radnor Arms well in advance for what was supposed to be a special meal. It markets itself as a higher-end gastropub, and as locals who have visited for drinks and food several times before, we expected considerably better. Despite having a reservation, we were seated in the middle of the main pub rather than the restaurant area. We ordered four house beers, a cider and a Guinness. After around 15 minutes, none of the drinks had arrived. We asked twice and were simply told, “They’re coming.” The food then began arriving before the drinks. The six roast dinners were brought out at different times, and the food was barely warm to begin with. By the time everyone had been served, the first plates were effectively cold. We then had to ask whether any vegetables were coming. Two tiny side dishes of vegetables were initially brought out for six roast dinners. The server acknowledged that this was clearly not enough and said she would bring more, but we were eventually given only four small portions in total and told to share them. At £24 per roast, being told to share tiny portions of vegetables between six people is ridiculous. My beef was extremely undercooked. I enjoy rare meat, but this was closer to raw than rare. The vegan roast was particularly disappointing. It consisted of a small meat alternative and three tiny potatoes, with virtually none of the trimmings expected with a roast dinner. Halfway through the meal, only two of our six drinks had arrived. We had to ask yet again before the remaining drinks were finally brought over. Throughout the meal, we repeatedly raised issues about the missing drinks and missing vegetables. Despite this, there was not a single apology or any meaningful attempt to address the experience. To finish it off, a 12.5% service charge had been added to the bill without being mentioned to us, despite the service being exceptionally poor. We are local, have eaten and drunk here before, and came for a special occasion. The entire meal was ruined by disorganised service, cold and underwhelming food, inadequate portions and a complete lack of concern from the staff. We will not be returning.”
