About The Butt Of Sherry
The Butt Of Sherry is a pub in Hythe at 132 High St that welcomes dogs, so diners can bring their own along. The kitchen serves a wide pub-grub menu, with pies including steak & ale, a seafood platter and sizzling chilli and tiger prawns. A separate menu adds a variety of other dishes, and a roast menu, daily specials and a dessert choice run alongside it. The decor is traditional, and the room holds both people sitting down to a meal and people in just for a drink. Parking nearby is difficult, so it helps to plan how you will arrive.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the pub grub, with the pies leading the way, including steak and ale and chicken and ham, described as packed with filling under fresh pastry. Close behind are the fish dishes, such as sizzling chilli and tiger prawns, a seafood platter big enough for two, and fish and chips. Diners also mention homemade parsnip and chilli soup, pea and ham soup, a roast chicken, a good dessert choice and daily specials. Many describe the staff as friendly and attentive, and a few praise the wine list, the beer and the quiet background music. One visitor with a dog was offered a choice of tables for the animal's comfort. The main complaint comes from one reviewer whose pie arrived without its Stilton yet was still charged as steak and Stilton, and whose broccoli looked mouldy, which the kitchen called bruised. That reviewer felt the pub could easily have made it right but did not. One other notes that parking seems difficult. Another reviewer describes an extra plate brought out unasked when two meals were shared among several diners.

“We come to The Butt quite regularly & the food is always very good, the staff attentive & always chatty if you want to. We could not recommend them any more. Do not hesitate to enter & enjoy Barry & Sally 😃😃”

“Fab pub. Excellent food. Top notch standard pub grub like pies and fish and chips and desserts. Great daily specials. Good wine list. Wonderful friendly service. Cosy atmosphere and obviously very popular. Had a great time and will come again.”

“The Stilton was missed out of my pie (the chef apologised which was nice) but I was still charged for Steak & Stilton instead of Steak, then my broccoli was mouldy. The kitchen said it was bruised, not mouldy. Either way it shouldn't have been served. A disappointing experience unfortunately as I've been before on several occasions and not had a problem. They could've easily made it right but chose not to.”

“Seafood platter was excellent enough for two of us. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was really good and the customer care was excellent. Will definitely be going back again and I would recommend to anybody”
