Customer Review Summary

Diners come mostly to mark birthdays and anniversaries, and the afternoon tea, including a champagne version with sandwiches, choux buns, warm scones and sweet treats, is praised for its presentation. Reviewers name the salmon, the Massaman duck curry, the gratinated scallops and prawns, the duck salad and the beef tartare, and one calls the steak among the best they have had. Cocktails get mentions too, including the Spice Girl, and one reviewer suggests having a few at the bar before being seated for dinner. Servers and bar staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, often helping diners choose dishes, and one evening featured live jazz singers. The complaints are few. One diner had to remind staff about a forgotten bottle of wine halfway through the main, and another found it odd that the steak came with only one side. Several celebrations ended with a small chocolate cake or dessert, brought out with a candle and no singing.

“We booked the same day while visiting the city. We had a wonderful waitress called Tilly, very discreet when serving and clearing. A real asset to The Ivy Exeter. Thank you Tilly for making our visit a great experience.”

“Fantastic experience, service from the staff and manager (chap in pink suit) was above excellent couldn't do more for you if they tried and food was beyond amazing. Had a fantastic champagne afternoon tea, thank you. They also brought out a small chunk of chocolate cake with a candle to wish me a Happy birthday, all done discreetly with no embarrassing singing or having attention drawn which was a very lovely, kind gesture all round fantastic afternoon.”

“Beautiful restaurant, took my wife for our 4 year anniversary. Recommend getting a few cocktails at the bar before being seated for dinner. Only thing I could fault was our bottle of wine had been forgotten about and had to remind them halfway through our main. Steak was one of the best I've had although it comes as only the steak with one side which I thought was a bit strange.”

“Had an afternoon tea here for a 80th birthday, when we said it we were there for a birthday the brought out a small chocolate square cake with a candle in it .Thought that was a really nice touch. The food was lovely, presented really well and was delicious. There was a veggie option, which came with sandwich/rolls which were cheese, peppers and fish. The other ones were egg mayonnaise finger sandwhich, salmon cream cheese choux bun and chicken & truffle cream brioche roll . You got three sweet treats, lemon & poppy seed muffin, Dark chocolate & salted caramel plant pot and creme brulee with berry compote. There were also warm fruited scones ,cream fresh strawberries and strawberry compote. This came with a selection of Teas & coffees. We also added a glass of champagne 🍾 The service was brilliant the staff were so attentive and friendly. The Vue is decorated beautifully. Not a cheap place but you are paying for the quality and experience, which is worth every penny. I will definitely be going back .”

“Celebrated my 33rd birthday here last night! Wonderful atmosphere sitting outside. We had a gorgeous waitress; Connie - who helped us all to choose our food with a little info about each dish! It was super accurate, and the food was incredible. Lovely evening. Thank you very much! Kx”
