About Al-Farid
Al-Farid is a Moroccan restaurant at 3 Cathedral Yard in Exeter, combining Moroccan and Lebanese cooking with a shisha bar. The mezze follows a pick-6 format, where diners choose six dishes, a selection sized for two people sharing. Lamb tagine is on the menu among the mains, and hot Moroccan mint tea is served alongside. Vegetarian and vegan options are listed, and gluten-free choices cover both mains and desserts. Wine and desserts complete the menu. The team serves guests at the table, and the restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
The lamb tagine is the dish reviewers name most, described as bubbling hot, rich and tender, with meat melting off the bones. The mezze comes close behind, including a veggie mezze called fresh and a pick-six option that suited two people. One reviewer also praised the chicken samosa, Tavak shish with couscous and hot Moroccan mint tea. Diners describe authentic decorations, a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff, and several say vegetarian and vegan choices are good, with gluten-free options for mains and desserts. Some call it great value, while others find it pricey, one citing three small falafel with three salad leaves. Another found the menu short on vegetarian and vegan variety and disliked the aubergine dolmeh a server suggested. One reviewer describes a long wait for food, and another mentions very steep stairs and a toilet right beside the upstairs dining space. One reviewer suggests booking in advance, though another walked in and got a table. A diner who asked for a cushion to sit on was given one quickly.

“We went here for lunch to mark a special occasion. Rohin was our waiter and was really helpful going through all the dishes. We had the veggie mezze which tasted wonderful and fresh. I love North African food and would highly recommend this restaurant set in a quiet corner of Cathedral Green.”

“It was an amazing experience. The decorations was really amazing and unique which brightened the atmosphere. The staff were all very kind and helping. Our server, Poppy was very kind and always smiling. On the other hand though, it was a bit pricey🫣”

“The service here was amazing and I walked in without booking ahead of time and was still able to get a table. The exterior is top notch, when you walk in it feels like you’re in a different world. Whoever designed this should be proud of themselves. However, though the service was amazing I wish there was more variety on menu with vegetarian/vegan options. I had the Adas mezze (lentils soup) as starter honestly if I got rice or bread with it that would’ve been enough to fill me up. However, I asked recommendations for my main from the server and they recommended dolmeh aubergine I’m not sure whether it was called this but I honestly did not like that, it was okay but I regretted ordering this as price of the main was around £20. I just wish there was more variety on menu with vegetarian/vegan options.”

“Never miss a chance to enjoy such an amazing delicious meal at this hidden gem, we were greeted by our amazing hostess ليكسى, who was so lovely, welcoming and super friendly, the decorations was very authentic, and was very nice to enjoy the AC at such heat wave, the food was super delicious, fresh, full of taste and aromas, made with love and care, the lamb tagine is a must to enjoy the real authentic taste of Morocco, it came bubbling hot, and meat was just melting off the bones, we also had the delicious chicken samosa and Tavak shish, which was very yummy with coscos. All to be sealed with hot Moroccan mint tea and desert... Thank you very much for such lovely meal, and experience of such delicious food. Highly recommended for a romantic night, and special occasions, and I can only imagine how it could be terribly busy at weekends, though booking in advance is recommended.. thanks once again.. Definitely coming back again...”
