Customer Review Summary
Chips draw the most comment, and reviewers split sharply on them. Admirers describe large portions of crispy, tasty chips with good batter, and one calls it the most delicious batter they have had on cod, eaten with orange Chinese curry sauce. Others mention freshly cooked fish, cheesy chips and a fishcake enjoyed by a child, and food wrapped thoroughly to keep it warm. Staff are called pleasant, and one regular describes being served kindly close to closing time. Critics say standards have slipped. They call the chips mostly hard, scrappy bits, possibly cooked more than once, and one found the frying fat stale and bitter. Others report greasy, soggy batter and fish so thin it looked like a fillet sliced in half. Miniature vegetable spring rolls were almost all pastry, and a fishcake was so hard it was compared to a frisbee. Two reviewers say a jumbo battered sausage came from the hot box, was dipped in batter and fried again rather than cooked from raw.
