Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast is the most discussed dish, and reviewers divide sharply over it. Two diners who ordered two Sunday Roast Dinners for Two report that only one platter arrived, and that they were then told the kitchen would not make the second because they had ordered too late. They describe no apology and no discount on the bill. Another reviewer found the lamb fatty, the pork underseasoned, the Yorkshires tough and dry, and the potatoes impossible to cut, while a fourth called the roast nice but wanting more flavour. Praise lands more warmly elsewhere. Reviewers single out the bangers and mash, fish cakes, pizzas, a steak and Malbec pie, and puddings like the chocolate bomb and Sicilian lemon tart, along with delicious martinis and a large wine menu. Staff are repeatedly called lovely, friendly and welcoming, though one reviewer describes a long wait to be seated in an empty dining room and another table being served first. In the missing-platter account, the four diners shared the single roast while waiting for a second one that never came.

“We had a booking for four people at 8:45 PM on Sunday, 12 July. We placed our order at 8:53 PM, ordering two Sunday Roast Dinners for Two. When our food arrived, only one platter was brought to the table. We immediately informed our server that we had ordered two. He told us he would speak to the kitchen and have the second one prepared. While waiting, the four of us shared the first platter so the food wouldn’t go cold. After some time, the server returned and told us that the kitchen would not prepare the second roast because we had “ordered too late,” implying that it was our fault. This was extremely disappointing, especially considering that the mistake was not ours—we ordered two platters, but only one was brought to our table. We are regular customers and visit this restaurant frequently. We have always enjoyed our experience here, which is why this was so disappointing. What upset us the most was not only the mistake itself, but the complete lack of apology or accountability. No one acknowledged that the order had been served incorrectly, and there was no attempt to resolve the situation in a professional manner. The last booking time at the restaurant is 9:00 PM, and our reservation was at 8:45 PM, so it makes no sense to suggest that we were too late. Even if there had been an issue with the kitchen closing, a sincere apology, a reasonable explanation, or some gesture of goodwill would have been appreciated. Unfortunately, the way this situation was handled fell well below the standard we have come to expect from this restaurant. We hope management takes this feedback seriously so that other loyal customers do not have the same experience.”

“Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience during our recent visit. My friends and I booked a table for a Sunday roast at 8:45 pm and arrived at approximately 8:52 pm, which was still within the 15-minute grace period stated by the restaurant. From the beginning, the service was not up to standard. We had to choose our own table, which had not been cleared from the previous customers, and the member of staff did not offer to clean it before seating us. He also appeared uncertain and inexperienced throughout the service. When taking our order, he repeated it back as two roast dinners for two people. However, only one roast dinner was brought to the table. After we pointed out the mistake, he spoke with the kitchen/manager and later informed us that the kitchen had already closed and that they were unable to prepare the second meal, claiming that we had arrived 15 minutes late. This was particularly frustrating, as we had arrived within the allowed grace period, and the issue resulted from the order being taken incorrectly rather than from our arrival time. We jokingly suggested that a discount would be appropriate given that the mistake was not ours. However, when we received the bill, no discount had been applied. When we queried this, the conversation became rather uncomfortable. No apology was offered, and we were repeatedly told that we had to pay in full because we had arrived “15 minutes late.” This also raises some confusion regarding the restaurant’s booking policy. The online booking system still allows reservations for 9:00 pm, yet we were told that the kitchen closes at 9:00 pm. If that is the case, it seems misleading to continue accepting bookings at that time. Overall, this experience was very disappointing, especially as we have been regular customers and had always enjoyed visiting in the past. A sincere apology and better handling of the situation would have made a significant difference.”

“Popped in here for a drink. Really reasonably priced. Lovely staff member who served us. (Thursday 30th July at 5pm ish.) Cosy seating inside and out. Will definitely come back.”

“Georgia was wonderful! She was such a bright soul with a very helpful demeanor. She made some wonderful recommendations about the food and she was spot on with the bangers and mash. Thank you for such a great time”

“We are on the hunt for the best roast dinner around London. So far this is at the bottom of the pile. Ordered lamb and pork. Lamb fat needs rendering down, and the cut was not great a lot of fat and i left half the lamb behind. Pork was okay but underseasoned. Yorkshires were tough and dry. I love potatoes and will almost always finish it even if it's not great but these potatoes can be made into stabvests; it can't be cut through due to how to was prepared. vegetables boiled but under seasoned and under cook. Do not recommend.”
