Customer Review Summary
Fresh seafood is what diners return to most, with the seafood tower and the seafood pie singled out, one reviewer calling the tower a showstopper and another calling the pie a must. Oysters, half a lobster, sea trout, fish chowder with salmon and mussels, and salmon in pastry with mash also draw praise, and one family new to cold seafood ate everything. Desserts get a mention too, notably a whipped cheesecake and a limoncello sorbet. Service is described as friendly and pleasant, and the room as relaxed, with decor one reviewer likens to sailing charts and 20s art. The complaints are specific. One diner found the lobster, oysters and mussels on the hot platter overcooked, though the scallops were good. Another judged the bouillabaisse to be frozen seafood, with the fish and chips just ok and the chowder just fine. Even in the platter complaint, the reviewer noted staff kept changing the shell bowl and topping up drinks.

“Really friendly service in a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was well presented and very tasty. The decor is a cross between sailing charts and 20s art and whilst we were there, the music set the scene nicely. This was a nice breakfast break and we look forward to visiting again the next time that we visit Edinburgh. The normal meal menu looks interesting and is definitely worth a look. There was a selection of table sizes and something new to see in every nook and cranny.”

“We had an absolute blast at The Ship on the Shore for date night, and it completely exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Located in such a cute, charming area, it’s the perfect spot to take a stroll before or after your meal. The interior design is stunning, filled with unique, eye-catching features that make the space feel extra special. The food was simply outstanding, and the seafood couldn't have possibly been fresher! Tried all kinds of new things, and loved every single bit of it. The seafood tower was out of this world—an absolute showstopper and a must-order for any seafood lover. The whipped cheesecake was completely unique and, according to my husband, quite possibly the best cheesecake he has ever had in his life! My limoncello sorbet was divine—bright, refreshing, and the ultimate sweet ending to the meal. Our waitress, Evelina was delightful and wonderfully attentive throughout our entire dinner. Between the gorgeous design, the incredible food, and the top-notch hospitality, it was simply an amazing night out. We can't wait to go back!”

“At Fringe and popped to Leith for a decompress and found this fabulous bar and restaurant though we only had a cocktail. Great music, immaculate and stylish! Would definitely like to return!”

“We sat at 6 pm so had the place to ourselves. For drinks we asked for what was on tap and was indicated that if we look at the menu we will find the information we are looking for. We ordered the hot platter and provide some nice photos of it. The lobster, oysters and mussels were overcooked. The scallops were really good. The flavour on these items were great but severely let down by the overcooking. Oh, also did the lobster tomally get taxed? £140 for this. Staff were attentive to changing the shell bowl and drinks top-ups. 15 years ago we used to go to Fishers when choosing between these two in Leith. I'm sorry to have forgot that and to have spent that platter money here.”

“Loved The Ship on The Shore! Delicious lobster (reasonably priced at £30 for a half lobster) and Sea Trout, paired with a carafe of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine. Would definitely come back because it's now on our list of favourite places.”
