About Tempo Perso

Tempo Perso is an Italian restaurant in Edinburgh on Bruntsfield Pl, serving homemade pasta alongside coffee made from its own roasted beans and a large Italian wine list. The pasta includes Pasta Misto Mare and ravioli with ricotta and spinach. Specials change, with a buratta starter among them. Focaccia and a side of roasted potatoes can join a main. Espresso and other Italian coffee come from the restaurant's own beans, so the cup can follow the meal or stand on its own. The wine list is Italian throughout and sits beside the food menu. The dining room has high ceilings and unusual decor. A lunchtime deal pairs a main with two sides.

Customer Review Summary

Pasta is what reviewers return to most, with the homemade pasta praised for its texture, the Pasta Misto Mare singled out because it doesn't skimp on seafood, and the ravioli with ricotta and spinach recommended by one diner. Close behind are the focaccia, a pan fried sea bass, a prawn risotto special described as luxurious, and a golden breadcrumb burrata starter. Several also praise the Italian coffee and the wide range of Italian wines, and the staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, including with a young nephew at a family lunch. Value comes up often, especially a weekday lunchtime deal of a main and two sides with generous portions. The criticism is mild but real: one diner found the dishes delicious yet short of extraordinary, and another said the pasta wasn't the best they'd had, though they felt the lunch deal left little to complain about. One longtime local suggests ordering a side of roasted potatoes, which arrive small, crispy and sliced.

“I haven’t tried the food yet – I intend to – but the coffee here is exceptional. This is the place to go in Edinburgh if you love Italian coffee. Everyone makes it slightly differently, but it’s always good. Valentina makes a slightly shorter espresso which is the way I personally like it. I don’t grind my own, but my friend bought some of their coffee beans and later said they’re the best he’s found in the UK. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and there’s a grea atmosphere. I’m looking forward to coming here for dinner.”

“We visited Tempo Perso this week for my stepson’s 13th birthday and boy did it not disappoint. Atmosphere and service were fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious. And if you like Italian wine, I would see this is one of - if not the - best places in the city for a huge range to suit all tastes and budgets. Love it here and will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful evening.”

“We came for a graduation lunch with the family, and everything about the experience was fantastic. Service was amazing, and they kept my little nephew entertained and well fed throughout the meal. Food was delicious and the lunchtime deal was excellent value. Every detail of the meal was thoroughly enjoyed, and I would recommend Tempo Perso to anyone looking for a nice restaurant in Edinburgh. 12/10 (Bonus 2 points for being dog friendly)”

“Very busy upscale Italian restaurant. Service/front of house were very friendly and helpful navigating the menu. We had a one of their specials for a starter (golden breadcrumb buratta on a bed of very very tasty sautéed tomatoes) as well as meatballs, and then each had fish - my partner had their pan fried sea bass and was incredibly impressed, and I had the special prawn risotto they had available. Prawns were very fresh and juicy, perfectly cooked and the risotto was very luxurious.”

“My partner and I have lived in the area for some time now, but somehow had never made it to Tempo Perso. After our visit, we’re wondering why we waited so long. We initially stopped by for a couple of drinks in the sunshine while sitting outside, but we enjoyed the atmosphere so much that we ended up staying for food as well. We’re very glad we did. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and reasonably priced for the area. A special mention has to go to Andrea, who looked after us throughout our visit. He was attentive, polite, professional, and always up for a laugh, striking the perfect balance between being friendly and providing excellent service. Even said goodbye on his way home, which was a lovely and personal touch. What really stood out was how relaxed the whole experience felt. The outdoor service was genuinely attentive without ever feeling intrusive, which is something that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find. Tempo Perso manages to create a professional, classy, and laid-back environment all at once, while still maintaining its upmarket atmosphere. A fantastic evening all round, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended. You’ve certainly gained two new regulars!”
