About Cafe Romina
Table service sets the format at Cafe Romina, a coffee shop on Raeburn Place in Edinburgh's Stockbridge: you are seated, handed a menu and your order is taken at the table rather than at a counter. Breakfast and brunch drive the day, with poached eggs on toast, including a version with salmon and avocado, among the regular orders, and coffee running alongside in the form of cortados and lattes. The room is small with limited seating, and it works on a walk-in basis, so no booking is taken. Doors open in the morning and the café trades daily, with the street it sits on holding other breakfast and lunch spots. A step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children. Dogs are welcome, and music plays at a level that still leaves space for conversation.

Customer Review Summary
Poached eggs on toast draw the most praise, with one reviewer calling theirs the best poached egg they have had and another recommending the version with salmon and avocado. Close behind are the shakshuka, the beef sujuk, a fried egg roll and the Cullen Skink soup, which one diner notes is gluten free, as was a sticky toffee pudding. Drinks reviewers single out include cortados, a coconut decaf latte and fresh squeezed orange juice. Several describe the room as cosy, warm and homely, with friendly, welcoming staff and 1960s music played at a volume that still allows conversation. One visiting reviewer returned for breakfast every morning of their stay. Criticism is smaller but specific. One reviewer found the food overpriced and mediocre and the coffee watered down, and says they overheard someone behind the counter talking badly about paying customers. Another notes limited seating. One diner's server brought two cakes on the house.

“Quick & friendly service, cosy and warm atmosphere with amazing music at the perfect volume to hear it without needing to raise your voice to talk over it, and amazing food. My partner got the beef sujuk and it was amazing, I decided to “just” get poached eggs on toast and was treated to the absolute best poached egg I’ve ever had, including those I’ve had at Michelin star restaurants. Never actively enjoyed egg white until eating here! The coffee they use is absolutely amazing as well.”

“Very cute place with delicious breakfast. We stayed close by and after our first time there, we decided to come back for the delicious breakfast every morning for the rest of our time here. Staffel super kind, prices fair ☺️ highly recommended!”

“A Hidden Treasure in Stockbridge Café Romana ticked every box of my impromptu visit to the north of Edinburgh. A warm Scottish-Italian smile greets you as you take your seat. It appears to be a family business run by father and son. For this diner, I loved that Father had won control of the music. The sounds of 1960s nostalgia somehow made my coconut decaf latte and fried egg roll feel a little more special.”

“On a road packed with solid breakfast and lunch options, Cafe Romina is my favourite go-to spot. The food is always delicious and made with quality ingredients, the staff incredibly welcoming. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is one of my favourite treats. If I'm looking for a light meal or just to relax with a book it's the perfect place. The only real downside is limited seating, but frankly half of Edinburgh has that issue. If you find yourself nearby, make sure to try the shakshuka! You won't be disappointed.”

“We arrived about ten minutes before opening, fully expecting to wait until 9 to be served, but the chef kindly invited us in to sit. Even then, we were happy to wait—yet as soon as the waitress arrived, she came straight over to help us without hesitation. It was genuinely refreshing to see such dedication to customers from the very start. The place itself feels incredibly homely and cosy, the kind of spot where you can properly settle in and relax, and we even ended up having a lovely chat with the waitress about life in Edinburgh. Overall, lovely place, lovely people, and delicious food.”
