About Noodles Home
On Nicolson St in Edinburgh, Noodles Home is a Chinese noodle restaurant that makes its noodles by hand in the Lanzhou style. The beef noodle soup comes in a classic version and one with extra wide noodles, so diners can pick the cut they prefer. The menu also lists chicken and mushroom soup noodles, with pork dumplings for those who want something alongside. Orders go in by QR code at the table, and a server checks or helps with the order. A queue forms at busy times. Extra broth can be requested as a top-up.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the hand-pulled noodle soups, especially the beef noodle soup with wide noodles and the chicken and mushroom broth, described as rich, savoury and nutty with generous, tender meat and vegetables. Close behind are the pork dumplings, called some of the best one reviewer has had, and the lamb skewers, which divide opinion: one reviewer's favourite, while two found them too fatty. Diners also mention the mapo tofu, aubergine and kimchi fried rice. Portions are repeatedly called generous, food arrives quickly after ordering by QR code, and staff are described as friendly, with one server taking over an order for a customer whose phone was nearly dead. Complaints are smaller but specific: the mapo tofu carried so many sichuan peppercorns they got in the way of the noodles, the shrimp was lacking in one dish, seating in one area was small backless stools and loud with crowds, and one reviewer found the bathrooms often dirty. A diner who asked for less salt and oil said the kitchen obliged, and another noted a top-up of broth is available on request.

“Ate here before a Fringe show, really good fresh-tasting food. You order from a QR code, a server comes to verify your order, then the food comes out pretty quickly. We ordered the mapo tofu with wide noodles & the spicy chicken and mushroom soup noodles. The server had told us the mapo tofu was spicy, but we’d said that was okay. Another Edinburgh noodle place had said the same thing once, and it was not spicy at all, so we did wonder if it was true… this time, it definitely was a bit spicy! I did find the sheer amount of sichuan peppercorns a bit annoying, they were getting in the way of the noodles and tofu. I’d get the less spicy version instead next time! On the other hand, the spicy chicken and mushroom soup noodles weren’t spicy at all. They had a very nice savoury, nutty broth, and the chicken and mushrooms provided a nice texture. Once finished it was a bit unclear how to pay - had seen others pay at the table but we were waiting a while so just went up to the counter. And only drawback is the area that we were seated in only had small stools for sitting on, no seats had backs. Unsure if it’s like that in the rest of the restaurant but just something to be aware of. I would definitely eat here again :)”

“We stumbled upon this restaurant with a desire for noodles and having already looked at a couple of others, so we went for this one as we were hungry. We were very happy with our choice, it was absolutely delicious! And reasonably priced for a good big bowl.”

“Delicious food. Very generous portions. Reasonable price. The popularity of this place speaks for the quality. I had the most wonderful aubergine here - highly recommend it. I also enjoyed their kimchi fried rice. Friendly, attentive staff.”

“This is a very nice place to have some fresh hand pulled Chinese noodles. We got in to have a fast dinner after a long day walking around Edinburgh. We chose the pork ribs noodles, classic beef noodles, beef skewers and lamb skewers. Everything was delicious even the skewers were very fresh and didn’t taste like frozen. Looking at the menu I found some dishes a bit pricey but if the quality is this high, then I can understand it”

“The foods are fine. Asked the staff to use less salt and oil, and they did it. Seems to be a family-run business, and it’s a friendly operation. Decor is basic. Atmosphere is casual.”
