About Word Of Mouth Leith
Word Of Mouth Leith roasts its coffee on site, so the small café on Albert Street in Leith carries the roasting aroma through the room. Breakfast and lunch run all day from a short menu, with the full Scottish breakfast including black pudding, Eggs Benedict and a Croque Monsieur that can be made with gluten free bread. Espresso, americano and cappuccino come from the same house roast, and tea is served too. The room holds small tables with a counter at the back, and it sits around a corner and takes some finding. Reservations are recommended. Seating outside gives the option of eating in the open air, dogs are welcome alongside their owners, and high chairs make it workable for families with young children. A step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without a kerb or stair. It opens daily during the daytime only.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast is the constant here, with the full Scottish plate and the eggs benedict drawing the most repeat visits, one holidaying pair reporting four breakfasts in five days and another reviewer expressly suggesting the eggs benedict is worth trying. Close behind is the coffee, roasted on site, praised for smooth, sweet and nutty americanos, a cappuccino one reviewer calls perfect, and an espresso another describes as leaning acidic and fruity. Also singled out are the croque monsieur and croque madame, the croissants with ham and cheese, and gluten free bread that let one reviewer's wife order the croque monsieur. Several describe the staff as friendly, fast and smiling even when busy, and one advises not to be put off by a full room. The recurring quibbles are small and specific: one reviewer wants more bacon alongside the eggs, another found the tables too small for six plates and five drinks.

“Excellent little place. The food was fantastic, fresh and fast. Don’t panic if it looks busy, the two or three people behind the counter work fast and have great attention to detail.”

“The croque madame was delightful! The espresso pulls a little on the acidic side, if you like that. Nice atmosphere, prompt service. Happy to have such a tasty breakfast so close to where we are staying.”

“Reccomendation for everyone staying in Leith, looking for good breakfast and coffee. The staff is friendly and efficient and the food is comforting and tasty. In the five days being on holiday in Edinburgh, I think we had breakfast 4 times here. Simply because the food is good, staff is friendly, and the service is fast and efficient. So just everything you would want in a breakfast-cafe. It's a shame it is hidden around the corner, so not really easy to notice, cause it deserves more visibility... Small tip: the Eggs Benedict are really worth trying!”
