About Rocksalt Cafe
A counter menu running to 78 dishes gives Rocksalt Cafe plenty of room to cover the day, from breakfast and brunch plates like Eggs Benedict and avocado on sourdough to six named wraps, among them the Chicken & Halloumi Wrap, the Falafel Wrap and a vegan option. The cafe sits on Jeffrey Street in Edinburgh, a few steps from the Royal Mile. You order and pay at the counter, so there is no need to book, and takeaway suits anyone eating off site. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance serves visitors with mobility needs, while tables outside allow for outdoor dining, and dogs are welcome. Cappuccinos come finished with latte art, and a display of pastries, cookies and cakes holds croissants and brownies. It opens daily, closing in the late afternoon rather than carrying on into the evening.

Customer Review Summary
The cappuccinos draw the most attention, praised for taste and presentation alike, with one jet lagged visitor served one finished with a winking bear design, and others calling the coffee and tea the highlight of the visit. Breakfast and brunch follow close behind: Eggs Benedict on sourdough, scrambled eggs with toast and salmon or bacon, halloumi and avocado on sourdough, and a Turkish mezze whose Turkish eggs, borek and sausage one reviewer singles out as fresh. The display of pastries, cookies and cakes and the generous portion sizes come up more than once, and one couple opened a later trip to the city with breakfast here. The dissent is specific: one diner describes an almond croissant warmed in the microwave until gooey, sour tasting pancakes and a tiny avocado toast, and another says the coffee tasted like brown water. A group notes tables left uncleared and food arriving in batches, one plate landing as another diner was finishing.

“Great location, just off the high street and very close to Waverley. The menu has some tremendous breakfast and lunch options. I usually get a soup and a panini, but have tried various breakfast plates, and a few wraps... All delicious! The coffee here is excellent too.”

“Had an amazing, huge smoothie, a nice smashed avocado with chicken toast, and a truly delicious carrot cake which was recommended by the staff. And I usually don’t even like carrot cake that much! Might return to try their peanutbutter brownie and a different smoothie and toast. 😋”

“Great breakfast just a few steps from the Travelodge Edinburgh Centre. We had great food, drinks and a very friendly waiter”

“Unfortunately the food was really bad. We've ordered an almond croissant which was warmed up in the microwave... I mean. A croissant??!!! It was super gooey and not enjoyable. Also the pancakes were the worst I've ever had. They had a sour taste. The avocado toast with bacon was nice but a tiny portion... I don't know if we've just ordered the wrong things on the menu but I wouldn't visit again.”

“I popped in (jet lagged) for an afternoon cappucino. The waitress couldn't have been nicer and made one of the BEST cappucinos I've enjoyed in a long while. It even had the design of a winking bear! Taste and presentation - amazing! Highly recommend.”
