About Cocorico

On Jane Street, Cocorico is a cafe serving breakfast and lunch through the day, open Tuesday to Saturday and closed Mondays and Sundays. The croque-monsieur follows a homemade family recipe, alongside a full Scottish breakfast and a veggie breakfast option. A selection of homemade cakes rounds out the counter, including banana bread and a gluten free almond cake for those avoiding gluten. Everything is made on the premises, and dishes can be eaten in or taken away. Outdoor seating is available for breakfast or lunch, giving diners the option to eat outside, and the entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs. Dogs are welcome throughout, so customers often bring theirs along. Reservations are recommended ahead of a visit.

Customer Review Summary

Homemade cakes and banana bread draw the most consistent praise, with several reviewers singling out the banana bread as a standout dessert and others raving over an extensive cake selection they found hard to choose from. Close behind, brunch and lunch dishes earn repeated approval, from a croque-monsieur made with a family recipe and a full Scottish breakfast to a curry carrot and leek soup, a gluten free almond cake, and a cullen skink described as light but full of flavour. The cozy, dog-friendly setting and outdoor seating come up often, and many describe the staff as warm and welcoming, with regulars greeted by name and new customers made to feel at home. Reviewers consistently note quick, friendly service and fair prices for the quality on offer. No recurring complaints appear across the reviews. One diner recalls being personally guided toward a coffee suited to her taste after asking about gluten free options, leaving with a recommendation to return.

“A lovely little cafe, a bit out of the way and hidden, but a real gem. The staff were friendly and welcomed us right away. The food was delicious, from the special slaw to the (homemade?) mayo dip for the chips. The food service was pretty quick and a very nice homemade feel to it all. There were cakes that (although we didn't have any) looked lovely with a lot of choice - will have to come back for that next time!”

“Cullen skink amazing. Light but busting with flavour. Really good quality food at a reasonable price. Service etc a definite 10. Ps you can eat outside with virtually no traffic. It’s gone onto my favourites list.”

“Came here for lunch and knew I'd love it here as soon as I stepped in. Initially came in for coffee but had to come back and have lunch. I had a soup and the soup thay day was curry carrot and leek which was spiced well (not spicy either which is good). It was hearty and warming which is perfect this time of year. Their sweet options looked very tasty and I was tempted by their tiffin. I'll definitely be back to try this”
