About The Wee Red Bar
The Wee Red Bar is a small bar and club in Edinburgh, set inside a university student union and art college at 74 Lauriston Pl. The programme alternates between live band nights and DJ club nights, so students and local music fans share one room. There is no draught beer on tap, and the bar stocks canned and bottled craft beers instead. Gig nights carry an entry charge. The venue sits within the university grounds and is reached through gates, so first-time visitors should allow a little time to find it. Every so often a record fair takes over the space, with sellers who differ from those at other local fairs.

Customer Review Summary
Live gigs in a small, intimate room draw the most praise. Reviewers describe good sound and lighting for the size, a band night for Attic Days, and a new monthly Jungle and Drum & Bass night where the vibe suited the opening act. Friendly, lovely bar staff come up in most reviews, and a few mention cheap bar prices. Close behind is the beer. Several note there is no good draught, with tap beer called not great or poor, though the canned and bottled craft beers earn credit. A record fair also gets a mention for its different mix of sellers, though one buyer found little heavy metal. The main complaint is volume. One reviewer who has attended many concert venues calls it the loudest, says hearing protection is essential, and suggests the bar sell or give away disposable earplugs. Another found fewer than ten people on a Friday and music that was not indie, after bar staff said Saturday usually draws about 50.

“I have attended the record fair on a few occasions here. Not a huge event but different sellers from other local fairs means a new browsing experience. Not a huge selection of Heavy Metal on offer but I have found some gems among the items on sale here. Prices are generally reasonable too. Good relaxed atmosphere, well staffed and well attended although I've never found it overly busy when browsing. Recommended for any record buyer.”

“Small venue with friendly bar staff. No draughty beers but three canned varieties. The problem is that it is much, much too loud. I’ve been to >50 concert venues and this is the loudest. You absolutely need hearing protection, which means you don’t hear the music as well. I was lucky enough that someone lent me some. Without it I would have left soon after the music started due to sheer discomfort and risk of hearing damage. The bar should at least sell or give away disposable hearing protection. This is what Sneaky Pete’s does, and the music there is not as loud. I think it’s something to do with the acoustic noise from the drums being so loud in this space that all other instruments are turned up to 11…”

“This is a great wee venue. Cheap bar prices as it's a student union and lovely staff. Been here 3 times in last year for a private hired event and can honestly say it's one of the best venues I go to. Small, intimate and well worth the visit. Kudos to all the hardworking staff. Can't wait to return 🙌🔥❤️”
