About George IV Bar
George IV Bar is a pub in Edinburgh at 54 George IV Bridge, where live music plays in a Scottish tavern with vintage decor, so an evening drink can come with a performance. The bar pours whisky, craft ales and draft beers, including local options and Innis & Gunn lager, and a beer flight lets drinkers try several. The kitchen serves pub food, with haggis among the traditional dishes, fish and chips, and a Sunday roast with Yorkshire puddings. Sticky toffee pudding is on offer for dessert. The pub is open daily and seats walk-ins without a reservation.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw reviewers raise most, with several calling the portion massive and the fish crispy. Close behind are the Sticky Toffee Pudding, the Bangers and Mash, haggis, a smoked salmon soup, the fish soup, the scotch egg and a Sunday Roast with flaky Yorkshire puddings. Burger diners found the namesake burgers so big they had to take them apart to eat them. Beer earns repeated praise, from the draft selection and a three-beer flight to a local Innis & Gun lager and a Guinness. Staff are described as friendly, with waitresses recommending local beers and a manager finding a walk-in table quickly. Reviewers also mention a lively atmosphere with live music, and one notes very clean toilets. The one critical review says the food was very average and describes a hostel discount being refused at payment because the card had not been shown before ordering. Another guest staying at a hostel did receive 20% off.

“I went in around 3pm and it wasn’t very busy then. I had the scotch egg and sticky toffee pudding, which was pretty delicious! I also did a beer flight and enjoyed all 3 beers. I highly recommend!”

“Had a lovely lunch here with my husband today. The three waitresses working were all very friendly and recommended some local beers for us to try! Despite not having a reservation, the young woman managing the restaurant was able to find us a seat quickly and gave us some great tips on where to visit during our trip. Will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh”

“Our hostel recommended this restaurant and told us we could get a discount. However, when it came time to pay, the manager staff refused to honor it, claiming that we should have shown the discount card before ordering. They blamed it on their system, which sounded like a very unreasonable excuse. Even if that were genuinely the case, there were many better ways to handle the situation. They could have displayed a clear notice informing customers of this requirement, or offered some form of compensation or goodwill gesture. If a business chooses to run a promotion, it should be prepared to honor it and budget for it. Instead, they simply shifted the responsibility onto the customer, which felt both unprofessional and disappointing. This is not the level of customer service I would expect from a business in a modern, well-managed society. The food itself was very average, making the overall experience even more disappointing. If you can’t reliably honor your promotions, it’s better not to offer them in the first place.”

“Lovely old pub with fabulous food. The atmosphere is lively with lots of patrons chatting. We ordered the fish soup which was lovely & hot. Highly recommended.”

“Came here for a Sunday Roast and it was very good! We were seated quickly just as the dinner rush was beginning but the place never seemed overly crowded or too loud. Everything was seasoned perfectly and the Yorkshire puddings were perfectly flaky.”
