Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the live music, with bands playing alongside a warm, lively pub atmosphere, though one finds it a bit loud for lunchtime. Close behind is the food, where diners name the haggis, fish and chips, bangers and mash, loaded steak taters, sticky toffee pudding, a perfect lamb dish and a spice bag. Drinkers mention a peachy Jubel beer, a smooth Caorunn gin the staff recommended, and a wide beer selection, with the pub also described as a good place to watch the World Cup. Service draws repeated praise as friendly and helpful, with servers who went out of their way, including one who looked into wine options for a picky customer. The complaints are split between food and value. One diner found the haggis, neeps and tatties bland with no salt and pepper on the table, and parsnip crisps on top did not appeal. Another was charged full price for a chicken fillet roll after being told the Tayto crisps that come with it had run out, while nearby tables still received theirs, and found the staff curt. A third calls food and drink prices overpriced.

“As we approached not a “hello” or “how are you” or anything of the sort was uttered to us just asked did we want a table for two. After being seated we found the staff to be rude and not welcoming like as if they wanted us gone as quick as possible. Not a moment later we were asked if we were ready to order, luckily we knew what we wanted which was the Chicken fillet roll, we were told they had no tayto crisps left to give with the meal which it states we were to receive as they had run out yet just next to us many people had received some 10 mins after we ordered as we heard them ask for them and they got them? We were still charged full price and received nothing extra or even had the meal discounted to accommodate for the lack of something we were clearly to receive which is poor effort on their end, I would never normally complain about a place running out of something as these things can happen but to not offer something else or reduce the bill as you are paying for something you aren’t receiving that’s included in the price is baffling as many other places would ask or reduce the bill. The food was lovely and I would definitely get it again and recommend but the staff have really turned me off the place unfortunately.”

“Biddy Mulligans in the Grassmarket is an absolute gem of a traditional pub! The atmosphere is warm, lively, and welcoming from the second you step through the door, perfectly capturing the spirit of Edinburgh’s vibrant pub culture. What truly made the experience exceptional was Tati. She provided fantastic, attentive service with a bright, welcoming smile—even during busy hours. Tati really knows how to make you feel right at home, making a great pint feel like a special occasion. Whether you're popping in for a cozy drink, catching some live music, or soaking up the historic Grassmarket views, this wee pub delivers every time. Huge thanks to Tati and the team—I can't wait to visit again!”

“Had the haggis during our first trip to Scotland and was served by Sophia, such a lovely and welcoming girl. Really made the experience. Live music was playing and was really nice but a bit louder for a lunchtime environment. Definitely come back next time we are in Edinburgh!”

“The atmosphere was amazing, with live music and that authentic Scottish pub vibe! The lamb was absolutely perfect, and there were so many beer options to choose from. Everything was delicious!!”

“We usually go to the Auld Hundred but today we thought we would give this place a try. Service was okay, we ordered the Haggis Neeps and Tatties. Looked good but personally I didn't think that having parsnip crisps on the food was a good idea. Food was very bland,no salt and pepper anywhere to be seen. Price was good at £34,but I don't think we will be back. It's not that we didn't like the place but our food wasn't up to our standards.”
