About Cask & Barrel
Cask & Barrel is a pub at 115 Broughton St in Edinburgh, the original Cask & Barrel and one of the first cask ale bars in the city. The bar pours cask ales, with a mix of house ales and changing guest ales, alongside real ales and beers from local and other breweries. A whisky of the moment is also served for those who prefer a dram. Sports run on TVs and multiple screens throughout the roomy interior, so a match is in view from most of the room. The kitchen prepares a simple lunch menu in house.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to this neighbourhood pub mainly for its cask ales, describing a selection of four house ales and four changing ones, served in very good condition. One reviewer's favourite was Timothy Taylor's Landlord, and another mentions a whisky of the moment. Close behind is live sport, with plenty of screens and TVs all over, though one reviewer says it does not come across as a sports pub and has a more relaxed vibe. Several call it a friendly local, with staff who greet customers on entry and a bartender who gave good advice. Others mention a simple, house-made lunch menu, good outdoor seating when the sun is out, and a Brewdog pint cheaper than at the Brewdog pub itself. One reviewer calls the fish and chips among the best they have had. The main complaint comes from a single one-star review describing a barman with no people skills, customers left standing ignored while staff chatted among themselves, and a place with no atmosphere. Other reviewers instead describe excellent service and a warm, welcoming feel.

“Loved this bar on our visit to the city. Sits just outside of the very busy centre and offers some calm compared to the city, even though it did get quite busy in the evening. Doesn't have the Victorian opulence and decor of some other bars but has the feel of a neighborhood local, welcoming and warm. Cask ales are fabulous here. Unique selection, well cared for and served perfectly. A favorite on our visit!”

“Friendly place to get a pint. Bartender gave great advice and the beer hit the spot! Didn't try the food as it was mid afternoon but I would have tried if it was a bit later.”

“Nice Pub with a good selection of cask ales. Four house ales and four changing ales. The ones I had were all in very good condition. They also serve a whisky of the moment. As it is a bit off the beaten track, it is visited by locals and just a few tourists. They show sports on multiple screens.”

“Great bar for a few cheeky beers and ales if you like Live sport on TV. Plenty of screens in here for all that and the ales/beers are plenty to choose from as well also!”

“The original Cask & Barrel on Broughton Street is one of the first Cask Ale Bars in Edinburgh. Its very much a traditional bar with an authentic feel, providing a great range of cask ales, and has built up a great reputation over the years. Serving lovely home-cooked lunches throughout the week and showing the best of live sports, the Cask and Barrel is the place to be!”
